Hexamine (Esbit) tablets burn great and they're cheap enough to stash a half dozen away or throw a few in your tool bag in the truck. You get several minutes (depending on tablet size) of very hot fire. Plenty to dry and ignite moist tinder.
Got this buck at 4:00 on Saturday. Not a huge rack but he's a decent size. Should be a lot of meat. Also got a doe at about 9:00 in the morning, but didn't bother taking a picture.
Had a fox come sit on a log about 30 feet from me for about 5 minutes.
I bought one of those years ago (still have it). I love it and it's fun to shoot but it's finicky with ammo. Strangely, it'll eat Thunderbolts all day long.
"Greenwood police looking for ways to unload guns"
First you point the gun in a safe direction and remove the magazine. Then, pull the slide back and ensure the chamber is empty. Congratulations, the gun is unloaded.
Oh... Unload guns... I get it, that was a pun headline...
Ladder stand, don't know the brand. Make sure y'all use some kind of harness. Hate to hear people breaking their legs because they got excited and recoiled themselves over the edge.
Be careful out there. Wear your orange. ID your target!
And most of all, put some meat in the freezer!
(Posting this a day early because I'll be away from the computer tomorrow)
Ditto. I sighted my Mossberg 500 in at 50 last year and at the end of the day had three shots cloverleafed. I figure that's good enough for Minute-of-Bambi. I think getting the 3" mags as opposed to 2 3/4 is the important part (if appropriate for your gun).
I'll be using my H&R Handi-Rifle in .44 mag. She's new this year, I've been using a Mossberg 500 since my return to Indiana (Mossberg 30-30 in PA before that). My annual hunting spot netted me two nice deer by 9am the first day last year, so I'm hopeful.
Check pawn shops, I see a lot of old tube fed bolts there. You can usually get a good price too, assuming you don't need something brand new. I picked up a great JC Higgins in this configuration for $65. One of my favorite guns, honestly.
You think that's bad? Come to Hamilton county where they're replacing every 4-way stop in the county with a roundabout and nobody knows the difference between "yield" and "stop".
