    Oh goodie...

Maybe next they'll get around to reparations for the Irish, and the Native Americans.

And I'll bet the Welch have gotten screwed over, too. Somebody owes me some serious money.

Frankly, I'm all for reparations. So long as they are limited to those who can prove they were a slave a century and a half ago. Otherwise, we are just talking about people whose ancestors got screwed, just like lots of other folks. Welcome to the rest of the world, stop your frigging whining, and get your hands out of my pockets.

You know a future reparations bill is a shoo-in to pass soon. With the Socialists running the show right now, they'll pass one just to keep the "Us vs. Them" feelings hot and steaming. Otherwise minorities might start realizing they aren't getting anything they were promised.

I guess they introduce it every congress it just never seems to get brought to the floor when I first read about it I did not believe it so I went to the govtrack sight to make sure it was true since I could not find anything on snopes and I have never heard of it before. Well I went back to the govtrack sight and finished reading the whole thing. Just another lesson for me to get the facts before I post. Oh well

Yeah really. We might as well all hop on the bandwagon. I had a gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggrandfather who lost an arm in King Phillips War. I doubt he ever got a pension, so I'd like to go ahead and draw that. And then I'd like a pension for my other relatives in the confederate army who were shot at by federal troops during the civil war. Go ahead, Barry. Pay up.

    Directly from the site posted:
This bill never became law. This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven't passed are cleared from the books. Members often reintroduce bills that did not come up for debate under a new number in the next session.

Fast? Introduced date was January 2007!!!

Though, I agree that racism is abound in this country, unfortunately, SOME in the African American community take their PERCIEVED injustice to beyond the limits of rational thinking. I had a roommate in college that was on the National Negro College Fund and other scholarships. All he did was smoke crack in his room and steal stuff from ours. There is a line where merits that are potential by selection of only one racial group will end and then all you are left with is junk (there are HUGE numbers of very meritorious Blacks in this nation, but when you are focused on getting only Blacks in, you are going to get the low merit ones too, same as whites). Heck, I remember alot of the white folks that went to my college should not have been there either, dope smoking, beer swilling, low achievement allstars who were wasting daddy and mommy's money.

Reparations for crimes not directly done to those who would be recieving it? Something to get angry about, especially when I am second generation American and didnt have folks working in a field for my family! Why should my tax dollars go towards that?

I say we pay "reparations", but the subject must never be mentioned again. Ever. To accuse someone of racism after reparations must be declared a hate crime.

Writer Michael Z Williamson's Rant on Reparations

    Dear United Nations:

I note with approval that there's a bill before the US Congress to compensate African Americans for their mistreatment in the past. However, I was talking to a Russian Jewish friend of mine, and it occurred to me that her ancestors were slaves to Nubian Africans. Should she not be compensated also?

The Jews were also repressed by the Romans, forerunners of the modern Italians. But the Romans were subjugated by the Celts in 390BC. The Romans returned the favor, and then oppressed Christians as well, before becoming Christians themselves and forcibly converting the Pagan Celts. Later Christianized Celts were oppressed by other Christianized Romans, and the two combined, which is where we come to the African issue. However, certain Africans enslaved other Africans, so perhaps the Central African Republic should be footing part of the bill.
And much more in that vein.

That makes you one of the oppressors, do not pass go, do not collect $200,000.

I think that you should be immediately incarcerated or reeducated for being potentially a definite threat to CHANGE. Your Genes are giving you away ;) We need to get everyone DNA fingerprinted immediately because who knows what potential threats to the socialist cause are lurking out there

If someone wants reparations, I say they need hard proof that they are descendent's of a former slave. They then could go and find the slave owners family and ask them for the money. Since no one in my family was in the USA before 1900, I don't owe a dime to any asshat who wants money from the government because some dead white guy owned some dead black guy.

I do agree that some form of reparation could be called for. I think that this is the best way to go about it where slavery is concerned. Actually prove that you were harmed via your family line by another family line & make them pay the reparations.

Maybe next they'll get around to reparations for the Irish, and the Native Americans.

I don't think the irish were ever subjected to slavery in the US but the Native Americans do deserve something more than they are getting now. The federal government for hundreds of years had entered into treaties with those soveriegn native nations only to unilaterally ignore those treaties while stealing their land and massacreing entire populations of the only true original Americans.

I've heard the argument already that it was so long ago that you can't take land/money from people now to pay for it. The only question to that argument would be that if someone stole your car from you now, how long would it be before it wasn't yours any more? 10 years? 100 years? If they were able to keep the car in a valuable condition & passed it on to their heirs would the car still not be yours just because the person who has it now didn't steal it originally? What if those heirs then sold the car to someone else, should you not at least get the proceeds from that sale to reimburse you for the theft? That money should go to the heirs of the person the car was stolen from because that is who the car would have legally been transferred to if the theft had not occured.

If that doesn't deserve reparations then nothing does.

    Just food for thought.

I'm Jew and I always thought reparations were a good idea. Then the US Army introduced me to bacon, debt paid in full.

Let's see then... If peoples were enslaved at any time in history, we should compensate their descendants? That means that pretty much every person in the entire world is owed something.

Let's see where the word slave comes from...

The spelling of English slave first appears in English in 1538 (middle-ages) to describe how Slavs became slaves around the beginning of the ninth century when the Holy Roman Empire tried to stabilize a German-Slav frontier. By the 12th century stabilization had given way to wars of expansion and extermination that did not end until the Poles crushed the Teutonic Knights at Grunwald in 1410.

It sounds to me like some Czech people are owed big money by somebody. Hmmm, but who?
