I was never really into the AR15 platform, but I bought one just around Jan 20th, 2009...just to be sure I got one before "THE BAN".

...and that's the story of how I paid too much for a rifle I didn't really want, only to find that after a couple years I could have the AR of my dreams for hundreds less than I paid for mine.

An expensive lesson I don't intend to repeat this time around.

+1 on this, if you remember this happen when the current turd was running in the last election and won, prices shot thur the roof, I say people buying funs that did'nt know which end the bullet came out of:xmad: those of us with common sence did'nt buy anything then, and tried to tell anyone that would listen not to. But smany including dealers bought many, hint: same dealers you see at the 1500 with high prices for the last 4 yrs. If you feel compelled to buy then for gods sake "SHOP AROUND":dunno: many good buys can be found at this forum, armslist, ar15 and so on, don't just buy the first thing you see, just my:twocents:

Oh, agree, the same thing happened when President Clinton was elected as well, and the gun ban that had gone into effect. I remember panic buying quite a couple times. I wasn't old enough to purchase for the first part of Clinton's run, but I made sure to get what I could after that. I still have some of those wonderful 10 rounders, since I didn't want to pay 8 times the price for a couple extra rounds. And believe me, I read most all the gun "porn" that comes out and have a couple friends that study up as much as I do, so I dont feel the need to buy every new weapon that comes out. Just a lot of them haha

My wife and I purchased our LTCH out of fear of losing our 2nd Ammendment rights.
We purchased our handguns out of fear from BGs.
We purchased training out of fear of being unable to defend lives of ourselves or our family.
We purchase range time out of fear of losing the edge.
We purchased military surplus weapons out of fear that they may become unavailable or too expensive for us to own later on.
So yeah, I guess you could say we're buying out of fear. :dunno:

So I've read several articles and hear lots of rumors, but is anyone here willing to admit they bought a gun because they are concerned about a near future ban?

The FtW. Urinal Gazette ran a story about "gun permits" being high, which doesn't play into a gun ban since this is strict a state issue...
But, whoever said fear was rational.

Not really out of fear, out of a sense of needing to be prepared. And out of the sheer enjoyment of it.

The only fear associated with my gun purchases is that my wife will find out!

Ah, I stopped fearing. The other night see hopped in her car and said, "I'm going out to dinner with my girlfriend!".

I replied, "then I'm buying another gun."

She frowned and left and I went inside and placed the order. Milsurp handgun, that seems the be only things without inflated prices or long lead times.

Honestly, I think there's less of a buying spree from Obamania and more from people joining the sport. Firearms are pretty affordable and people see us having fun and protecting ourselves and they just want in on the action. :ar15:

I'm not buying guns out of fear but I'll admit I'm not selling any because of what might come. Who knows what the value of a pistol might be when you can't find them. Also how about barter if the sh** really does hit the fan and money is worthless? How much food and other necessities might a firearm bring in a trade with somebody who desperately needs one? It sounds paranoid but, hey, look at the aftermath of Katrina. That would pale in comparison to what the Midwest might look like when the New Madrid fault lets go with the big one. Scores of bridges over the Mississippi and Ohio rivers destroyed. Utility lines and plants knocked off line. Natural gas and petroleum pipe lines destroyed. How many are really ready for roving bands of thugs who will kill for your food and water.

I wouldn't say that I'm buying out of fear, but the last time this happened, everything was out of stock for a year and a half... I'm just picking up the primers/powder/bullets I'll need for my regular shooting for the next year or 2...

It's tough because you'll have a lot of people get upset when everyone stocks up on ammo and and guns in high volume. But my thought is, I can either contribute to the madness and stock up while its available or end up not being able to find ammo for a decent price later or worse not find it around at all. The dealers are contributing to this panic as well, letting everyone know that the closer we get to election the more difficult it will become to find ammo in certain calibers. "This is where all the reloaders chime in"

I bought my first handgun in November 2008. I had been planning on getting one for a couple of years, but never got around to it. The fear of a new handgun ban got me off my keister. The rest of them have been for fun though.

It's like having donuts for breakfast. The first one is because you are hungry. The rest are because you found out how much you liked the first one and want to extend the fun.

I also laugh at those that think a Romney White House would be so much better than another 4 years of Obama. People need to actually listen to what candidates are saying and wake up.

Absolutely, one of the best things I learned was that Republicans are not always better for 2A, Bush enacted more gun control than Obama has so far. Romney is the former governor of Massachusetts, enough said!
