Seeing all these beauties is really making me want to buy my first revolver. Any recommendations for a carry .357? I've been looking at a 686 or 686 Plus with a 3" barrel.

My father bought a TALO 686+ with a 3" barrel and it's a fine weapon. Its size and weight really tame the Magnum recoil, and it's not too large or too heavy to carry. He uses a Galco Summer Comfort to carry it from time to time. He loves the trigger, and feels the 3" barrel offers a sight edge in velocity over the 2.5" and points/balances a little more naturally.

I really enjoy shooting my 2.5" model 19, but I definitely feel the recoil more in a K frame. It's not unpleasant, just more pronounced. Both are superbly accurate, but the slightly larger 686 does wonders to tame recoil in Magnum loads. They feel like .38+P loads.

If you pick up a 3" 686 and hate it, I'll take it off your hands :D

I'm torn between the 686 and the Ruger GP100

My preference has always been for Smith and Wesson. A Ruger feels foreign in my hand, and I find them to less attractively crafted. I certainly can't say they are a poor or vastly inferior weapon, just not my favorite. I also find a push-in cylinder latch to be odd. If you can at least hold each weapon you might be able to quickly choose a favorite. Shooting both is obviously the best choice, but short of that just handing each weapon might provide some insight.

Offer still stand to take a 3" 686 off your hands if you buy one and find it's not for you.:yesway:

Alright, we're long overdue for some 6-gun love on here, so here's a picture I took today of my "classic" Smiths.
    Top: 19-3 (1975)
    Middle: 10-5 (1974)
    Bottom: 19-6 (1989)

I also have a 642-2, but that one doesn't really fit in with the rest of 'em. Great little gun, but the looks are all wrong and you can find one of those anywhere.

I need to get the 2" LCR and 3" GP100 out for a family photo.
