I always have a 45 or 40 cal handgun real close for home defense & yard work but I also keep a 870 or my 11/87 around the house as well

Shotgun with #6 shot maybe #4 shot, reason is that it will not penetrate two layers of dry wall. Then 38/357 with wad cutters for same reason. With others or chance of others in home it's not a good idea to over do it.

For home defense I would start out with what is closest or available to me at the time. A .40, a nine, an 1100, 7.62, and if all else fails, club 'em with Grandpa's s/s 12 ga.

I'd choose my Mossberg 500 Persuader anyday, 12 gauge, 20" barrel, plenty of bang for the buck!

I'd grab the trusty Mossberg 500, with a short 18" barrel, and a magazine full of 00 buck.

I have both a shotgun and my Glock 19 by the bed.....

Mossberg 500 with pistol grip for the apartment. 00 and slugs. Glock 22 for back up. When I lived in the country, I used my AR.
