    over there
I have been wanting to write this up for awhile.

Weight loss for us larger guys is a large part of survival. Much as I hate to say it, I let myself go for a long time, and always said it was no big deal. Well it is, it really is.

The more weight that you carry, the harder it is on your body, and when SHTF things are gonna be hard enough on your body without the body being hard on itself. I'm not gonna list all the problems that being morbidly obese can cause, we all know what they are, or at least some of them.

I can't tell you guys how much better my knees and ankles feel since I have lost 65 pounds. It's like I am a new man. And the lady has never been happier(if you fellas know what I mean :rockwoot: Yeah you all know what I mean). I am not out of breath when I walk for 10 minutes, or when I walk back to my favorite fishing hole. I can even Jog again, I have not done that since high school.

Just think guys, are you gonna be able to get to your bug out location if you have no vehicle, are you gonna be able to drag your families next meal out of the woods without having a heart attack? What are you chances for survival when you run out of bullets and can't run away without destroying your ankles?

If any of you have ever been thinking about shedding the pounds, there is no time like now.

I have lost 65 pounds since January 1st of this year. I have prolly lost more than that in fat, but since I have started to lift weights again, I have never been stronger and developed this much muscle.

Late December 2010 I looked like this.
    beforelose.jpg

I know, I was huge, way to huge. It's not good to be as large as I was. Then I started the Nutrisystem Diet, and the weight has absolutely melted away. I also cut out all High Fructose Corn Syrup. And I started going to the gym 4 or 5 days a week. A nice regiment of Walking at 3.6 mph at an uphill incline of 6 or greater for a minimum of 30 minutes, really sheds those pounds. For the muscle workout, I do 140 shrugs, bicept curls, abdominal crunches, benchpress machine, and the pillar machine.

Its not hard guys, it just sucks. But once you get into your routine, it just works, and the weight will come off. Now I kick myself in the Butt every day for not doing this years ago when I had less to lose. But anyone who really wants to lose the pounds can.

This is what I look like as of May 12th, 2011.

    5monthsofweightloss.jpg

Its possible to lose weight, it just takes hard work. And a little starving the first couple weeks, cause you will be hungry all the time.

I can tell you that when I was at Brown County State Park a few weeks back, I was hiking trail that prolly would have killed me last year. But I was able to do them with a full 3 day pack on( the sad thing is, that when I stepped on the scales fully clothed with shoes, and backpack with sleeping bag and tent attached, I still weighed less than I did before I started this diet) I could do the trails without having to stop when I got to the top of the steps, or got up the hill.

The perks you get with weight loss are immense. I can conceal carry better, save a ton of money on cloths because I can fit into cloths that I had years ago. Not eating fast food has saved me literally hundreds a month(which leaves more money for guns and ammo). And again lots more time in the bedroom, if you all know what I mean, and I know you do, you know energy increases and so does stamina. I know that perk isn't just for me, but I can't be selfish all the time.:rockwoot:

And once you get the point where you are not starving anymore, you can be happier eating less, which translates into food going farther and lasting you longer. I used to eat like 3500 calories a day, now I feel full eating between 1100 and 1300. I have cut my calorie intake in more than half, and yet, I no longer feel as though I am starving. And this can be done by anyone who wants to lose weight.

I used to buy into that genetic crap, until I found out it was that, pure crap. weight can't just appear, It's impossible. To gain weight you must intake more calories than you burn, that's the simple truth. And to lose weight you must Burn more calories than you intake. This is not easy in America, all the food is packaged to satisfy hunger, and that little package of chips, boom its 3 or 4 servings. This too must be watched for weight loss, portion size is everything.

Well I can go on and on, but I will let the photos speak for themselves, and let this thread begin and take off where it may.

Feel free to rep if you like. :ingo:

Great Job! +1 I really need to drop lbs, and it is hard. Just got to do it.

I have a very difficult time believing you are consuming 4000-5000 calories a day on this diet. I'd have a difficult time believing you are consuming 2000 calories a day with it.

You may not agree with the OPs methods, but there's no reason to disparage his results. For many folks, having some type of system helps with the motivation they need, and as long as he's getting the nutrition his body needs, what does it matter to you how he does it?

4000-5000 calories a day, and he would have to be eating 2lbs of Porterhouse and a loaf of bread. With what he said he was eating, 1200-1600 is about right. That will have you losing weight at a good clip. When I ate that diet I was losing 30lbs a months for about 6 months (I was WAY up there 10 years ago) before leveling off and adding back lean meat and dairy to get to about 2000 a day.

I've got this week and next week and I'm done with rd 1 of p90x. Have lost 25 lbs and went from a 40/38 to a 34/32 depending on the brand.

As of Dec 2010, I weighed almost 280 lbs. I've been fat twice in my life both times after having my kids. Both times it's taken me 4 years to get the goo off.

No more kids for us, so no more fat either.

Congrats to all who are getting healthy!

That is awesome! I did P90x back in 2004 and sadly put it all back.

I started my eating healhier and portion control last week and hit the fitness center last night for 30 minutes on the ellyptical. I'm at my all time high of 295 and know I need to get this under control before I hit 300.

This thread is very motivating. Congrats to all who are progressing and thank you for reminding us all it CAN be done.

Thanks Hickman. You can so do it brother! I'm starting rd 2 next week. We saw some friends today we haven't seen in 6 months or so. First thing my buddy said was, Jesus James, you are buff, what you been doing? It's also nice on these hot days to work outside with your shirt off and not be self conscience.

Diet is so crucial to losing weight but I would encourage you to do exactly what you're doing. Portion control and choosing the right foods that work for you, especially when you're working out. Lean protein, eat lots of fish and while you're trying to lose weight, try to stay off of red meat. Fish, chicken, turkey, pork.

I'm telling ya, green smoothies are absolutely delicious and work wonders. Lotsa water, every day. Drink a full glass of water the minute you wake up. It gets your body hydrated and water flushes out fat.

If this thread motivates you then we gotta keep it going! :rockwoot:

Buddy of mine at work introduced me to Bill Phillips book "Body for Life". It's actually been around for a LONG time, but he follows the workouts / portion control plans while he's in Afghanistan and came back much lighter and in a lot better shape.

Says it's a lot easier on the body than P90x for 40 somethings way, way out of shape.

I'm about half way through the book and it's common sense and then some. I'll probably do this for the next 12 weeks to help get in some sort of shape before tackling P90x again.

Interesting. I'm still in my early 30s but my best friend is 43 and wants to get in better shape. I'll tell him about this book.

He has P90X collecting dust. I think he's concerned about being out of shape and starting off with something so I tense.

After I'm done with RD 2 of P90X, I may try insanity. Looks like one helluva workout.

Weighed myself yesterday. I have gone from 265 to 225.4 since March 2012.

Well, interesting news. I've rode my bike almost 50 miles last week. I have not changed my diet. I have had a little less sleep. Both my blood sugar AND my weight went up. I weighted myself yesterday in the AM and I weighed back up to 230. Not really sure what's going on.

yeah, it can be intimidating. It's hard to convince people to struggle to fight through the first couple of weeks because everything hurts.

I got the book from the local library, tell him it's worth checking out if he doesn't want to jump right in to P90x.

Do you weigh yourself at the same time each day? Believe it or not, your weight can vary sometimes as much as 5 lbs.

Weighing yourself when you first wake up is great motivator because you weigh the least. No gravity working on your body and your stomach should be empty.

It's been warmer out too. If your diet hasn't changed, such as no more salt than normal, then I'll bet dollars to doughnuts you haven't drank enough water. With the higher temps, even if nothing else changes, you'll need to drink more water. It will flush out fat.

Don't get discouraged. You may have even added more muscle. Do your pants and shirts fit better, same, or worse than last week?

As discouraging as it can be sometimes, muscle weighs more than fat and if you have increased your exercise maybe you're building more muscle. Keep it up though, because muscle will burn more fat too.

Good job to those here taking better care of themselves. I have been working on dropping some pounds myself the last 5 months.
I have to say, without software it would be tough to monitor exactly what I eat. MyFitnessPal has been a wonderful tool to keep track of my diet and lose weight along with my exercise.
Started at 209lbs. currently 185 and still a few to go to reach my goal.

Body for Life was pretty good, but I think I will end up doing P90X again. They are both pretty similar and build muscle but P90X I can do at home or in the gym.

I can modify P90x to fit me and get the same benefit. For example, having such a big belly, even pushups on the knees are hard to do. I can move to a weight bench and get results. Same for pullups, move to bands or cables and get the job done.

I did that for the first round last time and lost enough during those 90 days that by the time I started round 2, I could at least to most of the exercises.

For the food plan, I don't even fool myself into thinking I'm going to shop for and cook all these different meals. I'll move to having 5-6 meal/snack/shakes a day, exercising portion control and drinking lots of water. I like Healthy Choice meals, so they will be my choice for lunch at work.

I've been doing light p90x work outs for the last 2 weeks to get ready as well as paying attention to what I'm eating.

Memorial Day monday for me is D-day
