It's all personal preference, but there aren't too many other 12 round semi auto shotguns that don't take a bit of gunsmithing/tweaking to get them to run.

    Shoot it and decide.

I hate to hear that. My V12 ran crappy Walmart winchester bulk pack right out of the box and has not had an issue cycling anything so far.

Mine too. I fired 25 high brass game load shells 1st (based on Saiga 12 experience), then ran 100 wal mart/federal bulk shells. No problems. Well, unless you count the trigger slap brought on by 1600fps slugs.

Have any of you guys modified your old Saiga 12 mags to work in the VEPR? I've considered selling mine with my MD Arms drums, and keeping my box mags for an incoming VEPR.

I tried to mod a Surefire 12 round, but I cut too much off the front. It works if you press the mag forward; if not it tends to fall out under recoil. It's doable if you're not all excited about your new Vepr and in a hurry. :-/

I braved the snow this morning and ran through about 125 rounds without one FTE using the 1 1/4oz shells. My 3 factory 5 round magazines worked perfect. I purchased 6 SGM mags in august and tried them for the first time. I only tried 3 of them, 1 10 rounder had 3 FTF's, one shot 8 rounds fine but wouldn't feed the last 4, and one wouldn't properly seat. I guess ill be contacting SGM

The one SGM mag I've tried has the same problem. I can feel tight spots in the back of the mag when I load it. I've planned to work on it with a file but haven't gotten to it yet. I am interested to hear what SGM tells you.

I've had no issues with the saiga 030 mags sold by legion. I considered taking my SGM, chop sawing off the first couple inches and plastic welding it to the drum. I'll probably need a couple dummy rounds to take up the extra space. I think the vepr is over gassed for hot rounds and I'm hoping for more gas puck options from md arms or something

its suppose to be self regulating, only using what gas it needs. Since you can't adjust it, I don't know how a different puck would help without sacrificing reliability of the cheap stuff.

That is exactly what I'm talking about though... Sort of a range puck and a HD puck. I was surprised to see the difference in the saiga vs vepr gas system. I more expected something like the tac47 autoplug on the end. Shotguns are finicky as there is more selection in the type/power of rounds they shoot than any other weapon platform. If you could rate each round from 1-10 in power I'd say my vepr cycles well with powers within 1-5. I'd like a puck with less surface area or vent holes that allow 5-10. I rarely shoot that but it would be nice. Federal 2 3/4 flight control 00 cycles great for HD so I'm not that concerned.

yeah its a really simple system. The gas pushes the puck back, and once its moved back so far it bleeds off the gas it doesn't need to cycle the action through a hole in the gas block/front sight base.

    Mine... didn't. :(

Put about 60 rounds through it this morning before work. It cycled Federal LE132 00 Buck, RIO Royal low recoil 00 Buck and Speer Lawman low recoil slugs without issue, was hit or miss with Federal LE133 (my preferred house load), and utterly failed to cycle low aluminum base birdshot (big box bulk crap). I plan to run a bunch of high-brass game loads and other full-power stuff through it, and revisit after a couple hundred rounds to see if things have worn in sufficiently to allow cycling with low base loads. If not, then I suppose I will be doing some polishing and/or playing with recoil spring weights to see if I can get it there. Overall, I really like the gun. The folding stock is way more comfortable than I thought it would be, and perceived recoil seems to be a bit less than my Saigas. I don't care for the slick feel of the furniture, but that's easy enough to change.

Im in love with my bonesteel stock. Added the ace pad for rabbit hunts, moe rail on the underside for the foregrip / early morning hunts and lighting.

The cheesy sight up top has to go.. but after 200 rounds and it still holds zero...why not. Just need to wait on the new pucks to come out. Id rather not weld a port closed.
