Is there a difference? Maybe he said he worked at Stellantis and you were just asking him for how long, because you're curios. But that does not make sense in the context of the post you were replying to. It's reasonable to think that you asking that question in that context, how long he worked for Stellantis, is essentially the same thing.
Give me a ****ing break.. I truly can't imagine working next to you.
And thats a fact, I really couldn't imagine having to spend 8-12 hours a day next to you. Good day.

Indiana is a Right to Work State. How does one get forced into being a Union Member?
    Just say NO.
You understand that there are states that are not. The constitution doesn't apply just to Indiana. We were talking about the constitutionality of collective bargaining as it pertains to striking. So that applies to the entire US.

Oh come on. We're just having a disagreement on the internet. I thought you said no one's getting worked up but Bob.

I'll say it again, I'm not worked up.
I type just like I talk. Usually with a factory voice.
I knew a guy with a factory voice. He was a facility maintenance guy. We called him The Fridge, because he was built like a fridge. No neck. Really good guy. A real a hoot. Wound up hurt on the job. Went on disability. Sad thing.

I just laughed at him. Nobody said a word when I was driving a CR-V. Go figure.
LOL. Maybe it was just a truck brand loyalty thing. Every time I have my Truck in the presence of Ford guys, they give me **** about driving a Chevy. I tell them that at least I'm not driving a F***ed Up Rebuilt Dodge. I'm not a fan of brand loyalty.

One would end up in the bottom of a holler.

Gotta love the Hill Monkeys. My oldest friend moved to Berkley Springs about a year ago.
I have Uncles and cousins in Page, Paw Paw, Berkley, Grafton, Hurricane, Keyser, Nitro and others.
In all fairness........it hasn't worked out too well for the UMWA. The coal miners union of today is not my grand daddy's union. Kentucky no longer even has a Union mine last I heard. The coal miners in Alabama were on strike for 2 years and recently went back to work with lower wages, higher healthcare and reduction in pensions. The coal industry in Virginia, where my family is, has dwindled to nothing. My family had 4 generations of coal miners in Virginia/Southern WV, but none of my cousins are miners. My dad, Uncles, great Uncles, grandpas, great grandpa all worked them mines. Mine Workers Union has went from over 600,000 members to less than 80,000 total. A lot of this was because of automation, cheap coal and climate change/EPA demands, mine shut downs....... but the mine union now only represents about 35% of the miners in this country. The workers lost faith in them when the union lost leverage.

I have a feeling 10-20 years from now the same will be said about the UAW. Automation, EV's, competition......we could be entering a tough road ahead. We have the new EPA fines coming on ICE, everyone and their brother making EV's, a lot less parts and a lot less help needed to build them.......and they will have to be built efficiently to compete with Tesla and other non union companies who have a huge jump on them. I just don't know that now is the time to try making crazy demands like 32 hour work week and 30-40% wage increases right before a possible recession and with inflation out of control, but if they can get it, more power to them. I just hope they realize in 10-15 years about 2/3 of them may no longer have jobs.

But like I said before......I take no sides. I don't care what they do, I wish them all the best!

We were told as kids that computers would put us out of work if we didn't learn to use them, install them, repair them and so on.
The EPA has just been a bitch with anything that uses coal. Maryland's EPA just squished the coal power plants out. About 50-60% of the coal was low sulfur they burned was from WV.
The next 20 years will really be very interesting for sure.

This is where a futuristic eye would be nice to have. I am not convinced EV's will ever be a majority of vehicles on the road. I am not a believer......but yet they do seem to be catching on. I remember when I was a kid back in 70's and Public Service switched billing to computers. My dad cussed them up one side and down the other.....told them f'n computer experiments were a waste of time and just messes up bills. That a computer would never do what a human does, blah blah blah. Now look at today, we cant function without them. That always makes me hesitant to say some of this stuff today will not become life changing for humans in the future.

My single biggest fear for our society today.........is AI. That **** could be the end of the world as we know it. AI is scary for mankind.

To whatever extent they're catching on is artificially produced by government subsidies and driving people's fear about global warming. I don't think EV's can replace fossil fuel ICE. We don't have the resources for it, and we don't have the infrastructure for it. It's legitimate market is niche; the people who just think EV's are cool, and want one.

There are some things AI can't do, but I'm not sure that matters a lot. AI can't empathize, among other things. How much is empathy worth though? Scary indeed.

Reading through this thread has me wondering how fine the line is between solidarity to ensure fairness vs. strong-arm tactics to get more than the free market would otherwise allow. I’m not saying that’s the case with the current UAW situation, but it’s a thought I had after reading all this “thuggery” discussion. If the only thing preventing the employer from replacing you is intimidation and violence, then it sounds like you’re probably not worth what you’re asking.

The vast majority of union members are being grossly misrepresented in this thread.

We aren't thugs anymore than the average dispersion of ruffians in the population.

We aren't liberal Marxists anymore than the average dispersion of those in the population.

We don't expect a 40% raise or 32 hour work weeks. A handful of the demands presented at the beginning of negotiations were ridiculous and embarrassing. There's a long story behind that. In years past there was a committee to weed out the bs demands....but not this year.

Fain isn't our best representative. Look into the brand new way the uaw elected it's leadership JUST LAST YEAR! There was much confusion and very low voter turnout.

The people I talk to are not happy with the way things are going. Some comment on Fain not getting a second term. Unrealistic promises were made and continue to be. We just want to work and most would be happy to regain the concessions that were made during "leaner" times. (I define a concession as something we once had as part of our compensation, but relinquished in prior negotiations)

The idiots who make it onto TV are the idiots who made it onto TV.

    It does indeed.

    But. A VW? :puke:

I'm not keen on German engineering. British is even worse. Sorry. Bad experiences. Not a fan.
VW makes good vehicles. Not the best looking though. My Golf Rs were the first time I ever bought the same car twice. My wife has a Tiguan and it has been a solid vehicle.

Teachers Union, UAW and all the rest - they have all outlived their purpose. They are a cancer that destroys. The only use it has now is to support the leftist regime, the socialists. The members are bought and paid for by those who wish to Build Back Better.
