A day is a long time, just because there were other people on the trail that day doesn't mean they were there at the same time or even the same hour. A gun shot in a remote woods isn't that loud if no one is around.

This video might help paint a better picture of the scene, very remote and isolated.

I guess it depends on your interpretation of remote and isolated. Yeah in the inside edition video it looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere. It's not really. 500 ft or so away is cleared farmland and 1000ft or so is a house. Here is the areal view.

Perhaps the killer left as-yet unreleased information on those cell phones that have caused this investigation to ramp up so exponentially ie nationwide digital billboards and 2 dozen G-men on the ground. A challenge? An itinerary?

Possibility, it's also the agent that was there with the search was volunteering his time on his day off, and yes I'm being serious. Or is was a slow day at the Lafayette satellite office so they figured they just send a guy just in case he could help. But daily briefings to the Executive Assistant Director and the Director being briefed twice within a week? Over 2 girls in small town IN? And I'm not minimizing it. I feel for the family and friends and this hits pretty close to home for me. About 17 miles from my driveway to there. I think I've been bus monitor for one of the girls, I know people that know the family. But it's 2 girls in a country of 300+ million. And yes I understand just how out there this type of crime is.

I keep thinking back to the movie "The Green Mile", in which two little sisters were murdered by a monster down by a river,
that ended up being somewhat close to the family. Mr. Coffey's special gift let's him know that the monster killed the girls with their love for each other. Out of fear for what he would do to their sister, the other wouldn't scream or run.

I'm feeling more and more that this might be the case with this one as well. Though not sisters, they loved each other and were likely hopeful that this wouldn't end the way we all now know it did. So they cooperated up until it was too late. We always say it only takes seconds.

My prayers and broken heart sent out to family and friends as well as all parties involved in this disgusting situation. Minus the demon that did this.

+1 That is my gut feeling also.

I don't think the suspect is as old as the landowner.

I don't think so either. The old guy is 77. From what little I can tell from the stills, I'd put the suspect at 50 tops. Maybe a couple years older but not much.

Although considered a "suspect" is it not still possible that the guy in the photo is not the killer?

Possible, but I'm guessing they have info they aren't releasing.

I'd say in the neighborhood of 20+ years difference, 20 lbs, and numerous shades lighter of the hair. Other than that, dead ringer.

He did another interview wearing pretty much the same thing, but he also had on a pair of gloves because he was working outside when the news crew showed up. On spacebook you should of heard it, OMG why is he wearing gloves, why didn't he take them off for the interview, look at the clothes, have they interrogated him?

I understand that a double murder of teenage girls isn't "normal" as far as murders go. But I just read that the FBI is currently using 6,000 billboards in 46 states. Doesn't that suggest that there is something bigger with this incident? Or that they believe there is significant additional danger they are trying to prevent? Or perhaps, they really have no idea who this is and are panicked?

Just seems like with the amount of FBI, and the level this has been taken to nationally - that there is much more to this than what we know.

Is that not the same guy we have been told is the suspect? The picture we have been shown looks very similar.:dunno:
I lived in Delphi for a few years, just looking at the picture they keep showing it could be almost anyone. As that is almost the standard issue Delphi uniform, boots, blue jeans, carhart jacket (or similar warm but not "fashion" jacket), and to me it looks like a brown beanie style hat

The billboards by themselves don't suggest to me much other than they may have a suspicion that the person was just passing through or perhaps a trucker. What makes me wonder is how fast and far up the food chain it has went.

That is almost the standard issue "uniform" for most of small town IN. Heck most of small town midwest USA.

    Apropros of nothing, see here:

    Key excerpt:

As a strong advocate for sex crime victims, I’ve been closely following the pedophile arrests since Trump took office. There have been a staggering 1,500-plus arrests in one short month; compare that to less than 400 sex trafficking-related arrests in 2014 according to the FBI.

Is it possible this guy pegs some sort of suspect profile for an existing case? I know they've been focusing on truck drivers for trafficking routes . . .

    Thoughts?

My first thought when it was posted an FBI agent was participating as soon as they were reported missing was that this may be someone the feds were already in some form of contact with or otherwise on their radar.

The author is conflating two different things, sex trafficking and pedophiles. As an example there were two guys arrested in Lafayette recently on sex trafficking charges, the case involved an adult woman from Chicago who said they gave her drugs and made her turn tricks. There was also a guy who was arrested a few blocks from my house for downloading child porn. Two different things. That is not to say that they are mutually exclusive.

And yes that is a definite possibility. But not necessarily due to them looking at truckers for trafficking routes.

My first thought when it was posted an FBI agent was participating as soon as they were reported missing was that this may be someone the feds were already in some form of contact with or otherwise on their radar.

I thought that. But would it be even slightly normal for the Dir of the FBI to get two briefings on it within a week? Or the Executive assistant director to be getting daily briefings?

This case does appear to have gained as much or more FBI interest as any non-terrorism case I can think of nationally. I have my guess as to why that is, but I'm not going to post it on an open forum.

But we also have to remember who is the Vice President. And there are now A LOT of high ranking Indiana politicians at the national level now. I think Pence is definately pulling rank and moving this right to the top of the pile

I can tell you first hand that Delphi is hurtling, I can say that for my home town, but we also have come together as a community. As far as the FBI goes, you can't walk through town with out seeing a suit with credentials hanging and lots of black cars and truck, and now we have a big trailer satellite dish on the court house square.

Depressing to see this thread make it to the second page, this case is stalling out it seems, sad.

I just talked to a friend who said Battleground was crawling with sheriff's cars.
    Looked like something was up.

I do hope they get something going on this soon.

There was a snippet on the news last night that looked like they had a checkpoint set up associated with this investigation. Anything up with that?

Not really. The police are ensuring that we know that they are out there trying.

Everyone here understands that this will (and should) take time.
Oh yeah - I wasn't asking as a knock against what they're doing. I think they've been consummate professionals about scaling up the investigation and being disciplined in their engagement with news outlets.

The thing that looked like a checkpoint, though, would've been a very irregular development.

Not sure about "checkpoint", maybe voluntary information exchange.

The people I know that live up that way (Americus, Battle Ground, Colburn, Ash Grove, and into Delphi) are very supportive of the State Police's efforts.

Not sure if it's what you are talking about or something different. I heard they had a "check point" where the police were handing out fliers with the photos and other info on it.
