Another fallout from the break up of the family. Breastfeeding counselors my azz. That was grandma or great grandma’s job and they didn’t need high paid specialists...
I assume that you mean that grandma gives advice on breastfeeding. With the popularity of bottle feeding over the past few decades, many women do not know how to breastfeed. They would not know what to tell their daughters. Sometimes gramma is hundreds of miles away. I worked post-partum and mother-baby care in the US Naval Hospitals in Millington, TN and Okinawa. I coached many new mothers at breastfeeding.

Concerning the frenotomy. It reminds me of the circumcision debates. Those against it came out with all sorts of horror stories about mutilation or poor sexual satisfaction in later life. Parents can be in an emotional bind from all the conflicting information they are given.

I had a frenotomy in 1950 when I was five years old for a speech impediment. It was done by our family doctor in his office.

    Near the big river.
True story. My wife was breast feeding our 2nd daughter, she was 6 months old. She started a conversation with me about having another baby. I was ok with another but really thought we should wait a year or so. The conversation went back and forth for awhile until she said "Well, it is TOO LATE! I'm pregnant again". So...daughter #3....:dunno:
