Last night I decided to just ignore this post and move on. But, I've since slept on it, and I think I have a suitable response. Be sure to let me know if you think I'm wrong.

I'll be quite blunt here since that seems to be what you're pushing for. Who the hell are you to dictate to me what I should or should not care about and how much I or anyone else for that matter should care about what you think I/we should care about? And you know what you can do with that "irresponsible" tag.

I think there may be some misinterpretation of what I was saying earlier, because I definitely didn't intent to come across as hostile or "blunt". I think everyone (to the point of it being considered common-sense) should care about the details of the next President. I don't think anyone should be excluded from this... because I believe no one should blindly support a candidate, any candidate. Being informed about said candidate is an important part of the Democracy process, to me. So, when someone says they don't care about the candidate they're supporting... I definitely consider that to be irresponsible. Having another "worse" candidate isn't an excuse to give another candidate a free pass.

It seems that you just don't get that you might be turning some people off with your constant obsession just like the media..."Oh no..Trump said this!" "Oh now..one of Trumps handlers said that!"

    1. I hope I'm turning some people off from the cultish support (this doesn't apply to you). However...
    2. Neither I, nor you, can change anything about this Presidential election. At least here in Indiana. I have no influence over who wins, and neither do most people on this board that would read what I post.
    3. Harking back to above... I care how the potential next President behaves and what he does... because it does reflect on how they would operate as a President. I hate hypotheticals, so I won't bore you with one here.

Now, my guess, and here's where you can correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you read the things Trump does, and they make you irritated. I think you might be misdirecting some of that irritation and anger on the messenger: Me. Because obviously, I'm an easy target... I'm on a forum, I'm a faceless, nameless figure. I mean nothing to most people on here.

If I had resigned myself to a candidate, and was inundated with critical news about them... I'd find it easier to try and shut up the person saying it than argue the things my candidate was saying and doing.

    1. Sorry to disappoint, but I won't stop posting articles on all the candidates, critical of what they do and say. If you don't want to read them, you can put me on ignore. But I'd prefer:
    2. When I post articles, positive or negative, about either candidate... I'd rather see discussion on why the candidate did/said the things... and how that may impact all of us if that candidate were to become our President.

I hate that this needs repeating: I hate Clinton and Trump. I loathe them both. They are both awful Presidential candidates, and none of us will benefit from either of them winning. An erosion of rights is certain to occur with both. Just depends which rights.

I want to keep people on this forum informed on the goings-on of both candidates. Most people live in their Facebook echo-chambers and don't tire of seeing the candidate pat themselves on the back. Most people may not like seeing the blemishes, scars, and bad things their candidate does. We saw this behavior with Obama supporters, and I don't want to see it again with Trump and Clinton supporters. Presidential candidates suck, they're liars, all of them. You and all informed voters need to be aware of that.

Edit, and touching on this a bit more:

your constant obsession just like the media

(Un)flattering, but I'm definitely not media. You should see the **** I choose not to post! Even I filter a lot of the nonsense and clickbait out before sharing on here. So you'll have to take the pretty tame stuff I post and compare it to those.

Definitely no "obsession", though. I hate both candidates, and I know I can't influence this election. I post because I have time, and I enjoy the occasional discussion to come out of it.

Going back through your posts to the dividing line btw 1 week and 2 weeks old (as listed on the screen), and only counting ones where the thrust is obvious from the brief excerpt posted on the listing (which means did not look at any posts to Sad But True Pictures, Political Pictures etc)

You have, by my count 108 antiTrump posts and 22 antHiLIARy posts. Moreover, during the counting, this roughly 4-to-1 to 5-to-1 ratio was constant for most any arbitrary endpoint.

I would submit that you have an agenda, and it's not even hidden.

I will jump in here to defend GP a bit because a few people have accused him of being some kind of closeted Hillary supporter, which I personally find silly.

I'll have to take your word on the ratio of anti-Trump to anti-Hillary posts since I don't have the free time to spend compiling numbers. But I think the crux of this stems from the fact that we already know where Hillary's issues lie. She's corrupt, manipulative, doesn't take questions from the press, hates the second amendment and may be somehow behind some rather mysterious deaths. These issues are not new. They've been discussed on this forum ad nasuem.

Trump on the other hand, does or says something idiotic every single day. He's a pathological liar and narcissistic who just can't help but get out of his own way. With him there is just so much more to talk about.

Many of us, myself included, feel that he is unfit to be president and will not vote for him. Does that makes us closeted Clinton supporters? Of course not. Fortunately we live in Indiana, which is all but a lock for Trump. That means we have the option of not voting for him. If I lived in a swing state I might consider holding my nose and voting for him. But I don't, so I won't.

Are there some things I like about Trump? Yes. But I don't think he should be president and it is somewhat frustrating to see people blindly excuse some of the downright idiotic things he says and does. I don't expect these things will disuade his supporters from voting for him, but I, like GP, find it odd that so many refuse to even acknowledge the things he does that are truly hurting his campaign and making him extremely hard to support. The media drives much of the coverage of him, but he makes it sooooo easy. He gives them an excuse not to focus on Clinton's corruption.

All that said, I have to believe in the separation of powers and I only hope Republicans can hold the house and flip some Senate seats so they stand as a barrier to whomever the next president is.

But Trump's antics also put those down ballot races in jeopardy too, because he's at the top of the ticket. There are certain realities and strategies inherent to presidential elections that some Trump supporters seem to either ignore or don't care about. I personally won't keep beating the anti-Trump drum because I know it won't change anyone's mind and I don't think it's all that constructive. But I don't think someone who does is automatically a Clinton honk either.

I don't really see GP as an editor of content.

I just think his posting reflects the actual media available. There are more anti Trump articles than anti-hillary and he just mirrors that.

I like GPIA7R's postings here. I like to know about both candidates, especially stuff that gets buried on the major news sites. But then again, I'm not biased toward Trump like some people here. I don't like either candidate, but dislike Hillary even more than Trump, so I'll vote the lesser of two evils. Now if it comes out that somehow Trump can be worse than Hillary....well...I don't know that I could vote for Hillary regardless so I might have to skip this one.

The calling of Republican candidates and those who support them Nazi's is getting a little tiresome...I am over 50 and this goes back to the 1970's...Republican and Republican supporters are either "low information" i.e. "stupid" or they are Nazis....

Can't you all come up with a slur or put down that isn't so dishonest and historically inaccurate????

Please....Many of our family members support Trump, many of them are veterans, some of them (much fewer now) are even WW2 vets...They know what a Nazi is...They saw it first hand...Insinuating that fellow Americans that you may politically disagree with are Nazi's...Never mind the fact how disingenuous it is...It's just poor manners...

Please...I am asking nicely....I am looking at a picture of my late Grandfather right now taken after Monte Cassino in Italy....He would have loved Trump and he spent four years of his youth fighting National Socialism...

    Thanks for at least considering...

    Rick

Actually, I don't think all republicans are Nazis, even though many on here refer to all democrats as "libtards". I do believe that Trump represents the worst aspects of conservatism and none of the best aspects. He is a fascist, psychotic, narcissistic and would ruin America if elected. What is remarkable is that a number of people voted for him during the nomination process.

I've voted for a number of republican nominees for president over the years, including Nixon, Ford, Reagan (once) and both Bushes (once). I consider my politics to be moderate, not liberal, even though I supported Bernie during this campaign because I believed he was the most honest of all the candidates of either party.

Trump is a cancer. He disgusts me and yes, I hear the step of jackboots among his followers.

I only referenced the raw numbers because using some of the commentary I highlighted, he seemed to be suggesting that he was actually even-handed, which even the most cursory review reveals as specious

Trump on the other hand, does or says something idiotic every single day. He's a pathological liar and narcissistic who just can't help but get out of his own way. With him there is just so much more to talk about.

    Unfortunately quite correct

Many of us, myself included, feel that he is unfit to be president and will not vote for him. Does that makes us closeted Clinton supporters? Of course not. Fortunately we live in Indiana, which is all but a lock for Trump. That means we have the option of not voting for him. If I lived in a swing state I might consider holding my nose and voting for him. But I don't, so I won't.

I did not mean to suggest that GP is a closet HiLIARy supporter, only to point at that any claim to even handedness is ludicrous. The level and quality of material posted in the Trump threads, for me, verges on trolling

That we are 'blindly' excusing his flaws is a very judgmental, and incorrect, thing to say. Some of us (and I take the liberty of including myself) know exactly, or as exactly as possible, what we are getting; and we still prefer it to the alternatives. I think the need to label people as blindly following or low information speaks to an inability of Trump's critics on INGO to conceive of or countenance the possibility of support for Trump that isn't flawed in some way

All that said, I have to believe in the separation of powers and I only hope Republicans can hold the house and flip some Senate seats so they stand as a barrier to whomever the next president is.

But I don't think someone who does is automatically a Clinton honk either.

Agreed that no matter what, the down-ballot races are more important than ever. Let's hope the neverTrump cxrowd will show up to vote, I know the Trumpers will. Speaking of the 'realities and strategies inherent in presidential elections' do you think it was wise of all the hand-washers to keep opposing Trump after he was the presumptive nominee and especially after he was the actual nominee, if as you say the down-ballot races are so important

"Washing our hands of a difficult situation will not free us of guilt; it will only give us a false sense of peace"

ETA: referencing the 'level and quality of material posted' I submit #1307

I think Trump himself would disagree. From a transcript of him and Hugh Hewitt:

HH: I’ve got two more questions. Last night, you said the President was the founder of ISIS. I know what you meant. You meant that he created the vacuum, he lost the peace.
DT: No, I meant he’s the founder of ISIS. I do. He was the most valuable player. I give him the most valuable player award. I give her, too, by the way, Hillary Clinton.
HH: But he’s not sympathetic to them. He hates them. He’s trying to kill them.
DT: I don’t care. He was the founder.

So if Trump is Cancer, would you please describe Hillary?

The disappointment isn't with Hillary. We've all known for 8 years she would be the democratic candidate. What is most unfortunate is that in those 8 years, the GOP hasn't been able to get its act together to bring a viable candidate that the voters of MORE than just a small fraction of the nation could stand behind. That is the problem, boys. It ain't Hillary. It's that the GOP can't do anything except oppose whatever anyone else does.

Frankly, you can't get moderate republicans to run because some of you have strong objections to anyone who doesn't pass your purity test.

So, what do you end up with? Trump.

    Great job.
