98% rust free!!!! I was never very good at math, but needing doors, quarters and trunk floor work doesn't qualify as 98% rust free in my book....

1965 mustang fastback 98% rust free

OMG! 98% rust free to me means a little surface rust on some suspension components. That's it. I am amazed at how when I ask about rust and sellers say there is none and when I peer underneath the car and point out all the rust, they say they don't count that.

    Rust is rust.

That is a nice find. No worse for wear than one would expect. Not something I would put any time into.

Strange how the paint color faded.
The 68-69 had an ugly nose IMO. I think they are cool enough and make really great cruisers though. Hard telling on the paint, just like my car and many others like it, fenders and hood the paint is worn though and the rest of the body is ok. I often wonder if the engine heat had anything to do with that. The patina stops at the back of the fenders and the doors are actually in really nice shape. Strange.

I enjoyed reading this. The detail described is amazing. Props to whoever was the author. Keeping in mind that hydraulic brakes were just a little over 20 years old at this point and "self energizing" hydraulic brakes was only 10 year old tech at his point.

Cool. Larry Dixon, jr was just coming up when I was at TRW working the races. Pretty neat that he kept that car.

I noticed that that Caprice with the wire wheel hubcaps didn't have them removed. I seem to remember that all hubcaps had to be removed before racing.

Yes because they could decapitate you if they got loose.
