This was by far one of my favorite projects. I adopted the owner of this one as my "Gpa".

68 z28 that he's owned since it was 3 years old. He came in almost everyday for the 3 months we had his car. When he walked in and saw this, he turned around and walked right back out.... His baby had been cut apart...

I would have to agree with him he should have dropped it off and returned when you called. Why worry when you can buy all the new parts for a camaro?
    Try resorting a 1970 Cyclone!

I stripped 90% of the original paint off that car. It was all complete. Was restored with NOS sheet metal he bought in the early 80s right before they stopped stamping the stuff.

I will agree, FoMoCo's suck to restore. Mopars aren't much better...

A good body man is more artist than anything. It takes a special touch to get a body line right. I however cannot draw a straight line much less make a fender look right!

I called the machine shop today.

I was quoted on the phone $800 just for the following machine work:
    Bore and hone
    Deck
    R&R freeze plugs
    R&R Cam bushings
    Block clearance for 383

A decent 383 kit with rods, pistons and crank is at least $1,000
A set of aluminum heads run about $1,500
    Hyd Roller setup $500-800
    Aluminum dual plane intake $200-300
    Distributor $200

Build the motor and take a chance that it works out ok

Spend about $4,400 the parts and put it together myself or pay the mechanic $500 to do it puts me at $4,900 to build mine.

I can buy a BluePrint Hyd Roller 430HP 450 Tq for the same money with a warranty.

There are certainly advantages of having an engine builder put one together vs a crate. I guess the question is, how much do you trust your mechanic? Doing it yourself, especially if your you have the ability, puts you in control of everything. The warranty is the nice part of the crate option.

The warranty is the icing on the cake. 30 months/50,000 miles

    It's also a balanced engine

Dude I just saw the Roadkill Extra where Frieburger announced that!!!! Man I wish I could go.
So did I. I finally subscribed to the on demand a couple weeks back. I am increasingly losing faith in the heart of the lemans, otherwise I'd seriously consider it if I could find some company for the trip. I do have a couple weeks of vacation coming up at the 1st of the year.

I have never once regretted my subscription. I have learned a ton from all the shows. Roadkill garage, Engine Masters, even Dirt Every Day. I'm not ashamed to admit that that's how I knew the slant-4.

Just a labor of love for me.
