On the science side of things...

There's a Russian Cosmonaut named Oleg who's posting videos from the ISS to his personal Youtube channel. But nobody knows about it. His latest video, made 8 hours ago, from space, had about 17 views. Here's a quick fly-through of the station he made last week.

I remember when Commander Chris Hadfield was up there... he always did some really cool informative videos.

I never thought that was much of an argument. Deciding you are "important enough" is a single decision away. Problem is that decision doesn't have to come from a human. Any system scanning data and finding matching keywords or meta-data can elevate you to a person of interest and eligible for much closer scrutiny. Much of our data is now being captured for long-term analysis and decryption. That analysis ability will only get better with time, so even something that doesn't raise a red flag now, might later due to improving analysis or re-analysis based on new criteria.
Still comes back to know your enemy. Yes decryption and analysis will be easier with time and increased compute power, but, by the time it is easier will the data still be relevant? All encryption schemes will eventually be broken as computer power increases, the trick is to ensure that by the time they are broken the data will no longer be relevant.

Looks like a tracking point setup piped into glass. The target had already been painted and he was just re-acquiring it to have the weapon fire. Ridiculously cool non the less.

Once again being the Grey Man is a winning strategy

Privacy today is largely assured by being uninteresting, not by somehow being able to block all intrusion attempts
This has never been more true, nor more difficult. I was listening to a security researcher last year say that our irises could be recognized from 50 yards away, our faces from 500 yards, and our unique gait could be identified in three steps. Say hello minority report style ads.

I'm pretty sure my gate was just a stock unit when it was made. Admittedly, it has changed over the years, but I wonder what the three steps are because I don't know how you'd connect it back to me unless it was in a wide shot of my yard.

To keep them on their toes, I made sure to get some tips from the Ministry of Silly Walks so that they couldn't identify me by my gait.

    ...
    .

Also encrypt everything, instead of just stuff that "needs" to be encrypted. That causes a waste of time. And, you can even use code within encryption. Then you can add stuff like breaking words down into 5 characters, and using null words.

Porn has been responsible for a bunch of tech advancements, going back to beta v. VHS. Paywall technology, and IMHO even Paypal itself.

    QFT.

You think video streaming advancements and research were done so we could stream cat videos for free?

Its a dirty little secret that porn is the driving force for a LOT of technical advancements that would have otherwise not been possible. Regardless of where you stand on smut, you have it to thank for the cool non-smut uses for things like facetime, video conferencing, etc.

And to add to the rather ecclectic mix, a gentleman by the name of Fred Rogers is also credited with the advancement of VCRs. When the big media wanted to crush them, he crusaded their use for their ability to time shift quality programming. Thankfully our elected officials saw the light from his testimony and took our side instead of theirs.

Bet you thought you would never see a thread mentioning Mr Rogers and Porn within a degree or two of each other, did you? :):

VHS over Beta was a tech advancement? :):

I don't think porn really was the deciding factor in the battle. Although I have heard it said before.

Little known factoid from the internet, after getting many commendations for being a sniper in Vietnam, but before he got started on TV, he was a straight porn actor doing gay porn.

That's where he got the idea to change clothes on set.

I find the writer to be overly credulous when he believes that going into the part of your Google account that you're allowed to view/"access" and deleting your location data will somehow remove every copy of it from every Google server. I can only assume he still believes in Santa and the Tooth Fairy, also

Lot of Twitter changes being discussed by Jack Dorsey, including how they want to change the system to "shape" the content you take in... y'know, rather than just show the people you follow, chronologically.

    Step one, apparently?

They just suspended Robin Williams account. The man that passed away four years ago.

Today is apparently "Deactivation Day"... where celebrities are deactivating their Twitter accounts in protest.

The only person I've heard that's done it is Wil Wheaton... and I suppose he's worked with actual celebrities before.

What does Wil have to do with celebs?

Seriously, I used to enjoy his tweets until he lost his mind and went all SJW-ey. He's a poser child for TDS.

    Bye Felicia.

And as for the other celebs? Probably the same number of celebs that moved to Canada after Trump was elected.
