The most divisive president in modern history has been a black man. Sadly, I don't think that America, as a whole, will forget that for some time.

I'll wait around to be called a racist...

    ...again...

He was more Halfrican American than anything else. His race was unimportant though, his money grubbing anti-American actions were what was important.

[h=1]Too Far Left? Some Candidates Don't Buy the Argument[/h]

    Jennifer Medina and Lisa Lerer

,The New York TimesNovember 17, 2019

While none were willing to directly rebuff Obama, a few candidates offered implicit criticism, saying that Democrats should be careful to steadfastly back the field so that whoever wins the nomination can count on enthusiastic support from all corners of the party.

Except, they're forgetting, they need to win over more than the "party"

Oops, looks like tight end turned wide receiver Buttigeig committed a big blunder... Let’s see if he gets a pass from the media:

    https://thefederalist.com/2019/11/1...dorsements-from-black-south-carolina-leaders/

Wow, this should end his run for President... (from the linked article):

“Not only did Buttigieg’s campaign mess up the endorsement, they also used stock photos of Kenyans in their promotional material for the Douglass plan.”

"It turns out that the three black politicians listed at the top of his press release never endorsed the plan and 40 percent of the endorsement names listed are of white people"

Wow. Bush league candidate, bush league team. Seriously, do they think people are this stupid?

    Meh.
    He's a Democrat.
He gets a pass for falsely claiming minority support. Democrats have been known to be Klan recruiters and routinely use racial slurs (Robert Byrd and Lyndon Johnson) and they still get nearly all the African American votes.
As long as he gets cover from the Democrat/Media Complex, no one will notice.

Myself I was surprised that Joe Biden got in the race. From day one it had the sense that he was almost pushed into the race, I don't see the intensity or enthusiasm in his eyes or expressions. I think he generally liked being President Obama's VP, but is past really wanting to take the big chair.

Does Joe Biden actually want to be president?

He's gotten to the point where he is actually telling people, during campaign events, that they should vote for Donald Trump.

Biden heckled over Obama-era deportations, tells protester 'You should vote for Trump'

I honestly think it was going to be a cakewalk - he's the "presidential" one of the bunch.

His whole campaign is, "I alone can beat Trump."

The problem is, the progressive wing (ie 90%) of the party wants far, far more than simply beating Trump. Hopefully, this insistence on progressive-socialism or nothing will keep them out of the oval office.

I wouldn't say that compared to Biden, 90% of Democrats are progressives. And while progressives do want far, far more than "simply beating Trump," when push comes to shove, given their overwhelming distaste for Trump, they will happily pull the lever for him. I personally think that if Biden can last through the NH and IA primaries, he's probably going to win the nomination.

Biden is to 2020 what Jeb Bush was to 2016.

Biden could last, and right now I'd give him better than even odds of taking the nomination, but it's more that he would take it by default. I see him as the only sane candidate with any traction. Tulsi Gabbard is kinda sane, and so is Yang, but unless they can hang on until primary season and catch fire in Iowa, I think they're as good as out. Sanders and Warren might be tough for Biden to stay on top of during the primaries, so either of those could win the nomination. The rest are too bat-**** crazy to appeal to even mainstream progressives on a national level.

But. Biden is too old. Too meh. The only thing he has going for him is his Gaff-o-matic headline generator and he's not bat **** crazy. Would the bat-**** crazies vote for him? Yeah. I think if it meant that the alternative is another 4 years of Trump, they probably would. But some of those are so ideologically crazy that they may not be able to bring themselves to do it.

Assuming Trump gets out of this impeachment mess, and that's only an assumption for the purpose of speculation, Trump could beat Biden, but that would depend a lot on who is most motivated to vote. Democrats haven't done a lot to win back the working class. As unpopular as Trump is, they could have tried to appeal their way to the Whitehouse rather than trying to impeach their way there. They're too busy talking woke points, medicare for all, including illegal aliens, women with penises getting to use women's public restrooms, and pretty much everything else other than what appeals to working class normies.

Mayor Pete isn't exactly a progressive darling. He considered a moderate democrat. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to him taking the nomination. His drawbacks, which I don't think should be drawbacks, are his sexuality, and his lack of a history of engagement with people of color.

Well wait. Kut, I just noticed you kinda changed JK's point from 90% of Democrats to 90% of democrats compared to Biden. Which is fine if that's how you'd like to modify it. It's really saying something quite different though. So the way I'd say it, I'm not sure it would be 90% of Democrats are progressives regardless of where Biden fits in. I don't know the percentage, but 90% seems high.

In the very dense population centers around the edges of the US, maybe 90% of those democrats are progressives (and we'd probably have to define what we mean by progressive). But in flyover country I think most Democrats are still liberal in the traditional sense, many of which are working class/union types, which has some crossover with Trump supporters.

I'm not sure what to think about Pete. He tries to be both. Woke and sane. I get it. Politicians try to be everything. I'd just like to tell him, pick one dude. You either get to be sane, or you get to be woke. The two are mutually exclusive.
