We have a purpose now. We have a name.

Minks aren’t blue, and weasels aren’t green.
The guns we knew, were the best we’d seen.

It sounds like congratulations  is in order.

Colt 1878 in 45 Colt with original nickel plating! Hard to find with finish in decent condition as Colt was experimenting with high levels of nickel in the steel of these guns like everybody else. Made holding the finish difficult, but you'll see some every now and then.

    .

It went low because the cylinder pin is stuck. To get this out you have to be able to disassemble the revolver with the cylinder still in it and then you can drive the pin out from the rear with a punch without damaging it. I've rebuilt a few of these so I know how it can be done.

You have to remove the cover plate and keep the hammer pin in it's position, then move the hand to the 2-o-clock position where it can be removed allowing the removal of the hammer and saddle. This give you room to use a punch to drive the pin out from the back without damage.

If I buy a broke Colt Lightning, can I send it to the GSF for rehab?
You have me searching for them pretty regular, but damn, they’re spendy.
