They do go through quite a bit of ammo. I used to be happy with throwing 50 rounds of .45 at a target and could make that last a half hour. But, when I'm shooting a 9mm, I'm burning through ammo at three times that rate. It's hardly worth driving 20 minutes to the range only to have the ammo last less than 10 minutes.
