I watched a pickup roll into a lake off a boat ramp once, when we fished it out the doors were all locked which scared me a little thinking that's what modern cars do when they go in the water. I can see why people carry glass breakers.

My fear is reality based also.

I must have been about four years old and was rolling down the road with Dad in his Eldorado. He was a fire captain at the time.

We came upon a fully engulfed car on the side of the road. Wind was blowing back in our direction.

Dad pulls in behind the car at a distance, jumps out and dons his fire gear stored in the trunk and disappears into the smoke. Next time I see him, he is pulling a guy towards us from the smoke.

Something like that imprints deeply on a young mind!

I really don't have a "fear" of entrapment but lets just say I am aware. Having a son as a career firefighter probably serves to remind.

I read an article today about people getting stuck in their new electric Fiskars because the key fob went wacky.

I asked a friend who has a modern car repair shop about the doors locking once and he said nobody really knows what modern car electronics will do in untested conditions. I know cars going into the water is a rare thing but I've seen it more than once. I pulled the pickup in the earlier post out with a log chain.

The gardener made this to send to some friends with a Chevy truck. The cab was completely flooded, it looked like an aquarium as I pulled it out.
