I'm not trying to exasperate anything? There are those that would like to tweak things to make it more like they want, and there are those that want to transform this nation into something totally different. You're barking up the wrong tree if you want to paint me into that dynamic. Hatred takes way too much effort. I'm not wasting that on someone I merely think of as being ignorant and foolish.

I start by asking the idiot how many years he spent in the military and when.

If the answer to that is none of the above, my next word generally starts with an "F" and ends with "you, dickhead."

How's that hatred hypocrisy coming along?

Most people don't even know what socialism is, even if it was taken out of their paycheck, but still talk about it like they know what it is... oh, wait... nevermind.

Yes, you are correct, what they want to do is closer to communism. My mistake.

A Denver business is fined for not picking up other people’s poop

Jawaid Bazyar is the owner of a communications company named FORETHOUGHT.net. His building is adjacent to an alley where groups of homeless people, prostitutes and drug addicts hang out. Recently, the problem has spiraled out of control and people have been urinating and defecating in the alley, along with leaving discarded hypodermic needles on the ground. Despite having complained to the police repeatedly, nothing seemed to change and Bazyar grew distraught at the prospect of his employees having to clean up the potentially hazardous waste. The city of Denver responded by issuing him a citation and fining him for not keeping the property clean. (CBS Denver)

That is not the choice I would make.

But, for someone else with the same issues with the same gun, if they wanted to replace parts to make it very different, that doesn't mean they love the gun less. It just means they want the gun to have other qualities. We can dislike or be offended by the choices, and that's fine. (I recall a recent thread here about a guy making significant changes to a well-respected rifle.) ;)

I see reactions like that post as further efforts to exacerbate our domestic differences. And perhaps set the stage for actual hatred and enmity.

I don't think your model is accurate, at least it doesn't appear accurate from the metaphoric gun. There is a part of the spectrum that applies and a part of the spectrum that doesn't apply, and the part that doesn't apply has kinda taken over the Democratic leadership, along with a big chunk of the 4th estate. I do think that rank and file democrats--we could say, the Alpo democrats--still believe in the traditional Democratic party values. I don't think they hate America at all. They have differences of opinions, and their worldview is generally different from republicans and conservatives, but that gap is bridgeable.

So the far left part of the spectrum has indeed taken over the leadership of the party. Look at the debates. THAT is the democratic party leadership now. (I'm not saying they are the party leaders, I'm saying the bat**** crazy woke bull**** has made it to mainstream, and obviously they feel like they have to pander to it. Now that fringe spectrum does indeed have animosity against America. They think it's racist, bigoted, unfair, oppressive, and basically literally Nazi. Of course I'm embellishing just a little for effect, but it's not that far a stretch.

So, sure, some democrats maybe want to swap a few parts out of the gun, maybe add some parts they think are totally necessary...like an acog to their 1911. Maybe a gopro mount. Whatever. Point is, people can debate about whether the gun needs parts changed, or those accessories added. It's a completely different conversation that's going on with the fringies taking control of the Democratic Party. They want to melt that mother****er down and make it into something new. If you think they don't, you're not paying attention.

I'm not saying that to foment hate. I WANT dialog. I WANT the conversation to happen, and for people to bridge the divide. But, there is an ever more powerful faction on the left that isn't interested in talking. They're interested in shutting the discussion down and forcing the meltdown. Also, it appears that those identitarians on the right are starting to advocate some of the same kinds of things as the identitarians on the left. The only difference is which side's identity is promoted to the other's loss. The right identitarians aren't really the problem right now because they have no institutional power. But nevertheless, I think it's going to take the people who can at least have a conversation together, and who actually want the conversation, to overcome the fringes on both ends.

    DEMOCRATS HATE AMERICA

This won’t surprise anyone who has been paying attention, but there is a stark difference between the parties: Republicans love America, while Democrats can’t stand her. Rasmussen Reports has the numbers:

Democrats really don’t like America and think it’s time to move on from the culture that got us here.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just 38% of Likely Democratic Voters believe American society is generally fair and decent. Fifty-one percent (51%) say it’s unfair and discriminatory.
By comparison, 74% of Republicans and unaffiliated voters by a 49% to 36% margin view American society as fair and decent.

That sums it up pretty well. If you hate your country, there is a party for you! You are a Democrat. If you love your country, you have only one plausible home: you are a Republican. Never has this difference been so clear. In 2020, pro-Americans will vote for President Trump and the Republican Party. Anti-Americans will vote for the Democratic nominee, whatever goofball that may prove to be, and for socialism, the most disastrous system ever devised.

The difference couldn’t be more stark.

    https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/11/democrats-hate-america.php

T.Lex was at least a little right. I think the Rasmussen poll doesn't say all of what the article says it says. First, it's 60/40. A clear majority, but still a sizeable minority. And that 40% is not likely to find a home in the Republican party, because they're democrats. And republicans aren't democrats. They may be decent allies right now, because of how crazy the Democratic Party has become. But don't expect Alpo to order his Republican Party membership card anytime soon.

Also, to T.Lex's point, there are more reasons than "because they hate America" for why they might think America is not fair/descent, or is unfair and discriminatory. Of course I will say this. If you do hate America, you're a lot more likely to be a Democrat than a Republican. The fringe right who hates America is quite small.

    .
One can consider American society to be unfair and discriminatory, and still love it and try to change it.

In fact, there's a rationale that says that position requires greater love.

I have a gun that is blemished, is not easy to use, requires more maintenance than any other gun that I own, yet I love it.

I think a good analogy (and one possible explanation for why Trump was elected in the first place) is that if you take a perfectly good dog, and kick and abuse it long enough, it's going to become aggressive and start wanting to bite you, and others. I think enough people were getting tired of being falsely accused of being racist, misogynist, homophobic, etc., (kicking the nice dog) that they decided to bite. And with good reason.
