Is "crushing" a common practice amongst animal farmers and inner city dog breeders? I mean, unless you're producing cow or pit bull smoothies...

Bottom line for me is, people that abuse animals (I'm not talking about farmers - I love me some meat, or pest control - mice and rats, etc.) deserve no mercy and should indeed be incarcerated.

What I mean is that as the bill is written so that acts like drowning a stray cat in a potato bag would fall under the Federal statute against "Crushing" but chaining an dog to a truck and dragging it to death would still be a local matter.

The reference to farming communities and rural and inner city is unlicensed (or bad) breeders and the abuse regularly uncovered in puppy mill raids would also still be a local matter.

To fix that would require a much larger bill covering virtually every act of animal cruelty that would to be investigated the FBAC (Federal Bureau of Animal Cruelty) which would be a huge caseload.

What about picking up beagles by their ears - is that a federal crime now?

Depends ... If dressing it out for Sunday dinner, then maybe. I heard this was common in Venezuela, now that socialism has been given a fair chance. I'm sure it'll work better here, we have AOC ... to guide us.

They caught some hmong people here preparing a dog they caught for dinner. They were burning the hair off it over an open fire right in the living room of their trailer house. Some kind of code violation.

Yeah, it's not well written as the definition of abuse in the bill is too narrow while the crime of "crushing" that it creates is too broad. Fixing those makes it almost unenforceable on the federal level as the Feds would be swamped locking up a large part of the certain farming communities and chasing rural and inner city dog owners and breeders.

    Oh and...

tell me again how the interstate commerce act is not completely bastardized.

I realize it’s a stretch, but I can imagine an animal could be abused across state lines.

There are already laws on the books concerning trapping, so that's a non-starter. I think (hope) that this law is directed at those who abuse typical "pet" animals, and not necessarily "commerce" animals. Who was the NFL player that was running a dog fighting deal? Yeah... people like that.

While I have not researched it, I suspect that states all have animal cruelty laws that balance animal cruelty against things like hunting/trapping. Different states have different approaches to that. And that's the way is should be.

If this passes, there will be a federal standard that federal police can enforce in federal court irrespective of a state's citizens' sentiment about the matter. DC will dictate.

    Think NFA applied to pets.

I was once stranded over an hour on a major interstate waiting for Clinton and his entourage to pass by the over-pass that I could see ahead of me. Color me less than enthused.

    .
Obama had all of the highways in downtown Chicago shutdown for a couple of hours at the beginning of rush hour while he decided when he was going to go from McCormick Place to the airport to leave the city. Took me over an hour to find a way around so I could get home from work.

A new GOP bill that claims “to help prevent mass shootings”... GOP lawmakers are proposing a huge, federally mandated boost to America’s school surveillance industry.

    The focus: monitoring kids online.

    Go **** yourself, Senate GOP.

You have to admit, it would be just as effective as 'common sense gun control'

And don't forget, 100s of thousands of homes and businesses in Kalifornia are currently without power but the lights are on in Pyongyang.;)

PG&E is in the cross hairs of other things besides environmental ideology. There's big money, city machines included, looking to carve it up and cash in.

    Always follow the money
