The republican platform committee has gone full retard. With a platform like this they deserve to lose. It's not reflective of the general American public or reality. No doubt the American Family Association and their related lunacy groups had more than a bit to do with this. First they choose Trump then try to foist this on the country. The sooner they implode the better.

Republican Platform Continues to Move Right on Day Two - NBC News

LGBT issues were the most contentious part of the platform committee discussions Tuesday as a handful of advocates proposed amendments that would include specific protections and inclusions of gay and transgender people. All such efforts failed in the conservative committee that said it didn't want to play "identity politics."

If this is what is important to Libertarian voters, that this is what constitutes going "full retard", that more and new special groups should be afforded special "protections" by the federal government, then I'll never see myself being a real Libertarian supporter.

That's not even the major part that I find egregious. It's their continual battle against things that are legal and their insistence that their chosen religion be taught to the nations children. They are listening to fools like the AFA and Barton and trying to foist their wrong headed beliefs on everyone. The LGBT issue is now settled. They are just lost causers who won't move on. As for you voting for libertarians, that's up to you. You've previously stated you wouldn't, so I'm not losing any sleep over it. I'll take you at your word.

Foisting wrong headed beliefs on everyone? Like your man?

Yay Liberty! Kinda...for people we believe to be on the right side of history...

We're screwed all the way around this year. Enjoy your moral victory.

Yeah, as your party decides that porn is an epidemic and they're going to do something about it. Jackasses, one and all.

So you think johnson is a jackass as well?

Do you use this for your laundry?

Sorry MJ. Not my party. I'm not a party hack like you, my friend. I've taken the red pill and will no longer be held captive to candidates just because of their party affiliation. But I understand how that makes it a nice and tidy way to compartmentalize people.

I think it's a problem that social conservatives still think AFA have any national political clout left. With the Republican Party they still have some. With America, they have nearly none. There is no moral majority. The power that the Christian right had through the 90s and into the 2000s died around the start of Bush's second term.

I don't expect social conservatives to embrace the LP, I'm socially moderate and I haven't. But at some point the Christian Right needs to be willing to drop some things from the Republican platform. The LGBT issue shouldn't be settled. I don't agree with the idea of special classes of protected people anyway, and certainly not based on behavior. A sane SCOTUS would should rule that way if it ever got there.

As far as the Pence pick, I think Trump picked him to pander to #nevertrump Republicans. But as said earlier, Pence and #nevertrump voters probably wouldn't be swayed by his joining the ticket anyway. I'll be surprised if Pence helps Trump gain any in the polling.

Republican delegate resigns and backs Johnson/Weld. Not the first to do so, nor likely the last.

This is just a screwed up election. I am afraid of any of the possible Presidents right now. Johnson included. He probably could have been a viable choice for me if he showed an ability to actually be competitive. But I line up much better with Peterson if I were going to go Libertarian, and some of the things Johnson has said really pisses me off.

Someone else, I think maybe it was jbombelli who said something like, Johnson is a progressive liberal pretending to like Libertarian ideas. That hits it right there. And picking Weld as his running mate pretty much confirms it.

Turds and douchebags. I don't want ANY of them to be president. I am afraid of them all. I want an electoral mulligan.

All three parties sometimes remind me of cellar-dwelling sports teams playing for the first round pick

Trump has postponed his announcement of VP pick due to the attacks in Nice. If he doesn't pick Pence then Pence is hanging in the wind and can't run. Not sure why Trump thinks this attack on France should delay his announcement. Fox news will certainly give him lots of air time and preempt any coverage of France for him.

To avoid taking over the news cycle.

It's not his fault the media decided to have a frenzy with rumors.
