Something I hadn't given a thought to, dogfood.

We have plenty for our hoard but our son in KC needed a bag of puppy food for his mutt. He drove all over town with out finding any. Finally found some at Sam's. Got the last bag of puppy food in the store. And they were limiting people to one bag.

Just got back from rural king in Columbus, they had plenty of animal feed. I got a bag of goat feed, chicken feed, and kitty litter. Store seemed less busy than usual, but the cashier said it had not been a slow day.

Pulled up to the driveup window at CHASE bank on the west side of Bloomington. It was 4:05 and they said they closed at 4:00. On a Friday afternoon????

They acted like they were doing me a huge favor by going ahead cashing my check. I smiled and thanked them graciously. Dumb asses...:xmad:

West End Bank in Richmond has some sort of tech issue. I woke up about 0830 today (schedules are jacked due to all of this) and am STILL not able to see my account info.

Called the bank. They also cannot access it. Said "if you come to the drive thru we can do $250 cash for the weekend" and that they don't know when access will be restored. As I am in school and have a family, over 3 months pay is sitting in that account inaccessible.

She also said reports of debit cards working are intermittent.

When I called USAA to ask whether I would be charged a fee in the event my transfer would bounce (because the local bank issue is widespread in their own system and I might not even get money transfer approved), USAA CSR said that both her and her mother's small local banks have had the same issue today.

I've only read about the Depression or even the 80s and folks keeping everything in the bank, until it wasn't. Today was a lesson I hope ends only with my own resolve to not be caught in such a jam again.

Went to Kroger... got our weeks groceries a few days early, had to be a bit creative, but we won't be eating Ramen in a week.

No milk other than lactaid... no pasta... no fresh chicken or pork, little beef... no garlic bread... still no TP, towels, and cleaning stuff... few canned goods...

Got a great deal on bone-in Ribeyes, then picked up a flat-iron steak, frozen chicken, frozen salmon, and bacon.

In you preps.....if you do that.....cash reserves are part of it.

We keep enough set back to tide us over in these kind of issues.

Quickly learning. I'm just getting out of "young and dumb" debt, only beat the masses by 24-48 hours on stocking up (properly- we already buy in bulk as a family of 6, but had some holes). I'm still building, but the next mass hysteria I plan to be far more prepared. I started moving when it hit the newswire about China, but it was close- ammo, mags, AR parts, food, water filtration all began in earnest this year.
We can go over a month in the current situation since no one is doing disconnects, but hoping the bank fixes that soon

Everyone says supply chain will not be disrupted and stores will stay stocked..... how long will truck drivers stay on the road with no where to eat or shower?

It is almost funny how many people who have scoffed at us for prepping over the years are calling/texting/stopping by for advice or to see if we have a place for them. One individual was a bit freaked at the idea of having cash on hand and it not earning interest. Yup, Hilarious.

Stopped in Valparaiso Walmart today to top off what we used this week. Scored some TP while there :yesway:. The place has been hit and miss all week with Monday being the worst. No dry goods, canned goods and very little fresh meat. Ran to the other side of the store to get supplies to change my oil tomorrow and went by the guns/ammo counter. The line was 10 deep with most all ammo gone. Been there a couple of times this week and most people seemed shocked but still polite. Not so much today.

Stopped in the Washington, IN Walmart to see if it is like the rest. Light crowd for 6:00 Friday night. lunchmeat and fresh meat were thin but available. There were four 6 packs and eight 4 packs of TP. I had to climb the shelf to get the 6ers, got one for a friend. While I was moving the rest to a lower shelf a couple folks asked how many I was buying. They seemed surprised at "one" but they thanked me for moving them. They also took one each.

Even as a matter of regular every day life, you should have access to more than one line of payment at any given time. If you don't have a cash reserve, get a credit card to carry. You don't have to use it (although there are reasons to use a credit card and not a debit card), but you should have it.

Of the many things I do to "be prepared" (never considered myself a prepper) that the few people that know about it think is really odd, is to have at least $200 in cash paper money on me and 2 different plastic monies. If nothing else, I don't want to move all of my stuff over to another register and wait for them to scan it all again at the store if the card reader breaks down... and that's happened before. Drop my cash on the groceries and be on my way. Hit the ATM to reload later.

If I get mugged, the $200 is the least of my problems.

As you continue to grow financially and in your preps, start branching out into multiple modes of payment for things. Keep some cash at home, maybe get some precious metals, etc. Try to get up a month worth of whatever combination of those things you choose and then decide if you want to go further...

    So... Food for thought.

Casinos are paying better interest than banks these days?

Some states have closed rest areas for some unknown reasons on the other hand we have a letter that says hours of service does not apply. If your loaded go!

Ian't Indiana is pretty famous for eliminating a boatload of rest areas? Around here all the truck stops are all still open at least.

My son drives truck and yes they can get food and a shower. They may have to eat in the cab.

we eat in the car so I feel for them.

my partners and I have been taking turns bringing lunch for our group. This coming week we have some pretty good stuff lined up. I know when it’s my turn I’m making pulled pork, and then braised pork loin if I get a second turn. For whatever reason, pork is plentiful and cheap when everything else is gone.
