So, the differences in the LCP 3071 and the LCP 3740 (custom) appears to be:
    1) sights
    2) trigger
    3) guide rod

At $199 for the 3071, if you make upgrades:
    1) Sweet Pea trigger $45.00
    2) SS Steel Guide Rod $11.50
from Galloway Precision, you're at $255.50, plus maybe another $10 for a trigger install kit, and this doesn't include the upgrades for sights.

If the LCP 3740 is $229, seems that the $199 deal isn't that great of a deal. No?

For me...the gun would be an up close and nasty where sights shouldn't matter much. The sights on the custom seem really raised...I'm not sure why they did that...as far as all the other similar sized guns on the market...none of them have sights raised that high. I haven't held one yet, so I'd have to try to put one in my pocket and see if I can make it snag. If I can't make it snag then I guess It's fine, but unnecessary imo.

Most people who have compared the lcpc vs the lcp say the trigger doesn't seem to make a huge difference. The only thing that's appealing to me is the stainless steel guide rod.

Simply put...get what you want, but as long as you can hit a full size silhouette with the lcp at 5 yards that's all that matters to me...I don't care how "comfortable" it is as that's not the philosophy of use.

We sold the LCPc we had so I only have my memory of it to compare to my LCP. But I kept my LCP over trading to the LCPc. The raised sights wouldn't have worked with the holster I carry daily in. I don't know if many LCP designed holsters would allow room for the raised sights. The trigger was wider, which, to me, made the trigger pull feel easier. But that's because I got more of my finger on the trigger besides the 1# difference it's supposed to have. I thought about getting the Sweet Pea trigger to put in my LCP but my husband hasn't looked at the process yet to see if that's something he wants to tackle for me (he's done an Apex trigger before on his M&P).

I agree though, the LCP (either one) is, in my opinion, an up close and personal gun. When I can't (or won't) carry something larger, I still have my LCP hidden away. I don't like to shoot it but I do it so I know I can use it if I need to

Agree with both of you that I don't expect the LCP to be a range gun or something I shoot regularly. I was mostly comparing the 2 in terms of cost/benefit. The only downside I see to getting the LCP custom vs the LCP is if the sights do affect pocket carry/draw. Otherwise, it seems like it is worth the extra $30 to me. I already ordered the LCP for $199 from RK, so it doesn't matter either way to me now. :-)

You can't use gift cards on their webpage, what a crock of ****.

I think that's a reasonable downside. IF I didn't already have an LCP, I probably would have taken the one LCPc we got in. $199 is a great deal. Our distributor's are still out of LCP's..any of them

I'd prefer magguts for the factory magazines, but they're out of stock. They've ruin flawlessly with my g42 making it 7+1 without increasing the size of the gun or magazines. Keep in mind I've run over 1,000 rounds through these without a single malfunction or feed issue.

They are still out of stock. I emailed them and asked when they would get them in and no answer so far...

To me the trigger is alot better on the custom.. Not so much the pull weight but the trigger is wider and doesnt have to be pulled as far. The sights dont snag in the sticky holster i picked up for the wife or my DeSantis for my keltec.

I'll have to look into that.

Emailed them. They didn't mention over the phone. They said I can't use them on rkguns.com.

hmm.. Not sure I understand why. Wonder if it's because the payment method isn't technically 'registered' to someone as a credit card or check purchase would be.

RKGuns still listed my order as "Processing" so I called them. They said the holidays and being super busy has thrown them behind. They said it should ship in the next day or two. RK did have this gun iisted in their weekly ad for $199, but Ill bet they still didn't have any in the stores.

Rural King has them for $199 in their weekly ad. The Greensburg store didn't have any in stock until Wednesday, but I picked one up in Columbus last Sunday....

I was also using Magguts extra round magazine spring. (Making my factory glock 6 round magazines hold 7 rounds)

I only had two failure to feed which both happened within the first 60 rounds. Which I attributed to breaking it in.
