French police snipers on a very sloped roof in Paris, during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Surely they can calculate the trajectory of at least one of the shots using the wound tract of the poor fireman and where he was sitting in relation to Trump. What if it was the same bullet? (I haven't seen if anyone has done this yet, are there any diagrams out there depicting all known/possible bullet paths?)

Based. It's more risk but this is the smartest move. Be unafraid and unrepentant, and show faith that an institution can be fixed.

Showing up with Erik Prince security instead of Secret Service would be a messaging disaster.

Having a little knowledge about site security and executive protection, it seems to boil down to two options. Either the security plan and people were unbelievably incompetent, or the was some level of involvement and cover up.

The USSS are highly trained professionals that have one main job. Protection! To allow this shooter to get into position and get off shots is inconceivable. Not to mention the unbelievable number of lucky breaks that would all have to befall the shooter.

Just my humble opinion. Interesting to watch the developments.
I suppose each government agency has its dead weight, sub-par performers that they cannot easily get rid of. Perhaps the thought was, "It's only Trump, send these unproductive folks out to do security. At least we will get them out of our hair for a while."
