I like the store in Griffith better than Valpo, more friendly sales staff and less stairs to climb. Thought they moved as the store front was remodeled.

It all depends on whose definition of "da region" you use. Technically, I think I'm in the region, but I'm quite aways from all the comotion of the north end. Far south porter county to be exact. We actually own/farm ground that borders the Kankakee River for about 2 miles or so.

I know very well what purple means, but thanks. It just seems like every time you read a thread involving gun stores and somebody brings up Blythes, it's in a negative way. Not just in this thread, I guess I'd just had enough of it at that point. I apologize if I offended anybody, just sticking up for a top notch gun shop!

I have a negative opinion of them, because every experience I have had with them has been negative, from their outragreous pricing, to rude staff, and beyond. No offense taken. I've spent money there when I absolutely needed something small right then and there, but I do try my best to avoid patronizing them. Everyone's experience will be different, therefore their opinion will be different. Nothing to Hulk out about :D:ingo:

I don't mean to Hulk if i did. I'm glad I've had good experiences and I'm sorry others have had negative experiences.

Honestly I also have a negative opinion of blythes. $9 to shoot in the range for "an Hour" is pretty steep. therefore I have started to shoot elsewhere, and will drive to winemac to shoot, and will hopefully start working my way to getting a membership in the porter county conservation club. I usually hear mixed experiences with blythes. A lot of guys say they are reasonable and will deal. I have personally never had this experience. When I can send a PM to jahred from 21st or drive to mishewaka and go to midwest, and save substantial amounts of money. For example mags for my xdm. I got 4 mags through jahred for the same price that I would have got them from Blythes. 21st still made profit, although not as much, but they sell more. I go for service and cost and on both those aspects blythes sucks.

As for blythes making profit I have nothing wrong with that. I bring my own ammo with me, so it is not a worry to me. I just think its crazy to sell reloads for $7 more then you can go to walmart and get factory ammo. let alone on brass credit. I am all for any business making people a profit, but i am against bending people over on things.

    Plus the stairs suck...

Notice they're doing it two weekends in a row. I'm really impressed that NPCCC committed to carving three one-day Appleseeds out of their schedule in such short order, since Appleseed's insurance and safety guidelines demand that the facility (or portion thereof, under very particular circumstances) be closed to the public for the duration of the event. A strong showing at the one-days now will surely be weighed heavily in the future when it comes to scheduling full two-day events.

I have mixed feelings on Blythes and the other various NWI smaller vendors (Deb's Gun Range, Westforth Sporting Goods, etc...)

I know that they can't compete $ for $ against the Cabela's and Wal-Marts due to the higher volume of purchases that the big box gives. My first 3 purchases were at the local shops and looking back at it I did "overpay" on price but what I got for that overpay was excellent service.

The first handgun I got was a Springfield 1911 (GI basic) from Deb's at a cost of $650 or maybe it was $750 (can't recall as it was about 2 years ago). Yes looking back at it I got had (price wise) but again at the time I was a n00b, had never carried before, had taken the NRA basic handgun course 1 year prior to that @ deb's and had no other experience with handguns.

I recall that when I picked up the gun one of the employees took time to explain to me how it works, the IN gun laws on carry, no-no places, and even helped me take the gun apart to show me how to clean it and provided me tips on what/how to clean/lube it. He spend about 1.5 hours with me while the other employee handled the workload.

He then gave me a box of ammo (on the house) and told me to go shoot it to make sure it all worked (again on the house range time).

I don't know if this is the norm for them, or if becuase I took the handgun course there, or if I had that n00b face/look. In any case, that intro time I think looking back at it was well worth the extra I paid for the gun. I needed that hand holding at the beginning. When I left that day I felt more confident in the handgun (recall up until my 30th Bday I have NEVER touched a firearm before).

The guy told me if I ever ran into any issues to come back and see him.

When I bought the WASR-10 from Bylthes (Valpo) I had a similar experince in terms of they telling me should I need any help to come back and see them. They were friendly, not pushy, and answered all my questions at the time.

Now the Bylthes in Griffith hum... I tend to feel like they are either pushy or just don't pay attention to you. :dunno:

I guess my point is you can't or probably won't get that level of customer service from the big box store. When I bought the 10/22 a few days ago at the Wal-Mart (Valpo) it took f-o-r-e-v-e-r. The ast. mngr had to do the sell and I don't think he knew much about the rifle other than it is a rifle.

The funny part was Clif45 and I were there and once the sale was done the manager walked me to the door. He had the rifle in the box and gave it to me as I exited the store. Yet Clif45 was OC and I was CC. :faint: WTH am I going to do with a rifle, in a box, with no ammo when CLif and I was both carrying? **SIGH**

I felt like a criminal as I was being escorted out the door with the rifle. Like they did not trust me enough to have the 10/22 inside the store. :n00b:

You got the asst. manager that day. There is actually an older guy there, Bob if I remember correctly, who is a really good guy and actually knew what he was doing. Checked chamber, no pointing at people, and all that good stuff. They still have to wait on a manager or gm to approve the sale and "escort" you out of the store, which I still dont understand. I'm OCing a handgun in your store yet you still have to walk me out with an unloaded rifle in a box that you completely taped shut just 30 seconds before. And honestly the service at walmart that I had was not too bad. Somewhere between my truck and my house I lost the scope rail for the 10/22. I called up the guy that sold me the gun and he checked around the store area and couldn't find it. He told me to come out tomorrow and he grabbed me a new one off the shelf. This doesn't seem like much, but he could have told me to go to hell and it isn't his problem, but he didn't. Although I have never purchased anything but a holster from Blythes the Service I get there is about as good as I get when I go to walmart. When I want to use the range I have to drag someone over to let me pay them and whatnot.

To me it is easier to take the drive out to midwest or 21st and make a fun day out of it, get better service, way better prices, and help out a somewhat local store.

Single guys have money for guns and eating out. They should get married and suffer like we do.

Actually I was with the girl that I am currently talking to, along with my friend who was with his girlfriend.
