This is not my Caster, it's at another mill.
Usually, a breakout looks like right around 3 minutes on this video.
When this happens, the ladle gate is shut, stopping steel from coming out of the lade.
In this example, the ladle gate "froze". And metal continued to pour.

This is a basic explanation of a billet mill.
They do the same thing, but pour "billets". So they pour several smaller stuff.
We pour one big slab 9 inches deep, width varies 50 to 70 inches or so.
The cast floor is 80 foot up from ground level.
The slab is still liquid center till just after the curve to make the slab go along the ground.
