Was told WD40 would do the job. Was also told hot water mixed with Simple Green works too with the air compressor.

Nice! Paint me jealous. Did you find a good deal on those? I wish I still had mine unmolested.....

It's been years since I cleaned one. Back when you could get your hands on 1,1,1-trichloroethane, it did a great job on that stuff. Not sure what people are using now. I've been told that mineral spirits works too. It's cheap so you can grab a gallon and an old tub and go to work.

Seems no one has a perfect answer. Read one guy hung his in his attic rafters all summer over kitty litter. I'm not that patient.

Agreed, though laying it out in the sun on a hot steamy day for an hour or two probably wouldn't hurt the effort.

Pretty good deal. The stocks are in phenomenal shape. The Mauser was rated "shooter grade" and when we took it out of the wrapping at the store, no one in the shop believed it was rated so low. Score!

I am curious what the WD40 does. I may test it out before making a simple green mix

Wd40 just replaces the hot water that you put on the metal to remove that stuff from the gun.

Same concept when you fire,corrosive stuff.
Use hot water all over the gun to remove the salt crystals of the corrosive stuff. Then wd40 everywhere,to,displace the water to prevent rust from,forming on metal.

Soooooo anybody know of a good auto shop that would be able to drop my gas tank and replace the fuel sending unit, the fuel lines and the fuel filter in the area here ? Hate to call a dealership for it... Chevy 2004 Suburban...

Storm knocked out electricity for a while here in the hood "Hammond" Powers back now though...

Wish I had not butchered my Mosin and sks...... I also wish I could find them for $150 again...

I always just used dawn dishsoap and warm water in a tub to remove cosmolene, it worked wonderfully.

hd96heritage.... This will date me but I remember picking up Norinco SKS's for 37.00 each and 1400 round cases of steel core 762X39 ammo delivered to the house for 89.00....

Those were the days...

We use oven cleaner on the cosmoline and alittle heat in the oven...

That's the last thing I ordered before I gave up my FFl. 4 SKS's with the ak mag well, and a few cases of russian hollow points. I want to say I paid $59.00 a piece for the rifles. Days never to return.

Built glock girl an aquaponic garden this year. Late start to planting but the tomatoes a d cucumber plants are growing strong and our basil and lettuce root systems are quite advanced in the deep water culture. I hope this storm doesn't take out the greenhouse...

Unless your fortune is better than mine, these afore mentioned rifles are higher graded rifles that can be found under $250 per. There are tons out there that look like they went 6 rounds with a beaver if you want to do some work.

To those of you that could have bought a case for $5 and a ride on the trolley, how does hindsight feel? Ya never know.
