Too hot? Too hot for a pre-planned outdoor summer event in July.
When I was a kid, triple digit days is when everyone bailed hay (glad I haven't done that in years).

My wife chaired that event, and I worked it, for probably 15 of the last 30 years. There were several hot ones in that mix, I guarantee. I'm guessing that's going to cost them a few pennies for the 4000 ears of corn that they had scheduled.

104* in St Louis tomorrow for the cubs game! Looking at seating we’re right behind cubs dugout, should be shady by game time 6:45. Wooohooooo!!!!

104 degrees, in St Louis and watching Cubs/Cardinals baseball. A combined 13 games under .500.

I hope you have a good time. A beer garden with some live music and BBQ sounds better though.

The announcers for the Twins game yesterday were talking about really hot places to play baseball - they agreed St Louis was about as hot as it gets.

Sitting outside, 70 degrees, cup of espresso on the table.

World Fencing Championships in Milan, Italy

2 of my fencers competing. One finished near the bottom of the pack, 164th out of 180. The other is nearer the top. Went into his direct elimination round today ranked 38th, but competes against a Brit who is ranked 30. Hans Yoong from Malaysia is "my" kid. We come home through O'Hare Friday evening in time to have dinner at home then get to bed. I'll have him back on campus Saturday afternoon. He's trying to qualify for the Olympics. A Top 64 at the World Championships will certainly help him, just wondering if it will be enough. Malaysia doesn't send a Fencing team, so he has to qualify individually, this is his 2nd attempt at qualifying.

We're rooting for you coach! I'm afraid I don't know a proper cheer for fencing. Is it, poke some holes in that bastard?

Hans is out. Finished in 40th place. US Olympian Gerek Meinhardt finished in 33rd. There are still a couple other Notre Dame fencers competing. 40th may not sound great. But this is the World Championship. Most of the Olympians are in Milan. It is tougher than the Olympics because there are more competitors at the Worlds. 99.5% of the fencers can't qualify for this event so 40th in a World Championship is still freaking amazing for a kid to achieve.Screenshot 2023-07-27 at 5.59.34 AM.png
