Your woken up by your lovely wife sliding in behind you while your laying partially on your side, odd that the pressure of laying on the sore ribs helps with the pain.

You roll over and look at Trisha and she says simply “0845 sir..” to which you giggle and then stretch and pull her close for a hug. Once you realize that your way too comfortable you have to get up or you will fall back to sleep. You get up and make your way to the bath room. The power is on, you have hot water to wash your face, a cup of hot coffee from your Mr Coffee maker and as you enjoy the almost too hot coffee perfectly prepared the way you like it you turn and see your lovely wife standing at the door to the bathroom smiling as if there wasn’t a serious situation going on outside of your little abode..

09:00 - Day 8

Like clockwork the roll call starts just a few seconds after 0900. Everyone is on the call. Mr. Purple is still having problems with his septic as the rains have him using a buckets for waste water. He says his leach field must be clogged or something but everything seems to back up. He says at least he has a couple dozen spare buckets and only has to make a few trips outside each day to bury human waste and dump the wash water. He says that his Mrs. Has just about had it.

Mr. Grey reports that he has kept Mr. Koontz dogs fed and watered and has let them out. He did comment that he had to clean up a mess or two but over all the dogs are good dogs and hold it as long as they can. He asks when you think the inventory of the house will get done.

You comment that you have investigated some more of the “down stairs” and that there is more then you previously understood. Mr. Red asks if the back room is still intact, you explain that to your understanding all is well, that you haven’t gotten the first room straight and that the second looks to be untouched so more than likely the back room will also be ok. You ask what more there is? Mr. Grey says that there should be more there then they all have combined minus the motor pool..

You hint around about the hatch, the answers come back that no one thinks it should have any issues.

Mr. Grey asks if the power has been affected, you explain that the power has not been figured out yet. He jokes and takes a dig at you, “thought you were one of them brainiacs and knew about wires” to which you reply your still checking corners since the last time someone got the drop on you and your ribs still hurt.. Everyone has a laugh at your expense.

Mr. Red explains that if he could he would get someone to go help Mr. Purple but with the travel ban and weird military presence that no one should try it at this point. Mr. White expresses his building anxiety about the travel ban and says that if things don’t change much longer that he will try to get over to Mr. Purple’s house and get a look at the plugged system.

Mr. Purple makes a general comment which you were about to address, Mr. Koontz, to which he states, an empty barrel sealed would be better then nothing at this point and then buried as deep as possible to get the temp down and stable. There is a suggestion that the down stairs might have a soft container, body bag, that you can use for the storage.

Everyone signs off and about 30 seconds later Mr. Grey clicks over the walkie talkie he gave you.

Mr. Grey comments that your garden shed issue may need to be taken care of today, he says the way it looks the weather won’t cool off for a couple days and you need to take care of the issue sooner than later.

He offers to come over after dark and help you take care of the issue. You agree that his help would be much appreciated and he says he will check in after the 2100 radio call..

You decide to enjoy another cup of coffee and relax a little, as you sit in the comfy chair the children all sit around and sort of stare at you, all of them taking turns sighing loudly..

Trisha walks in to see them hovering and asks them if their chores are done. With a simultaneous “YES” they all make it clear, they want to do more downstairs…

The kids win, you get up, have Thomas go to the garage and get one of the halogen construction site light setups you have and a couple of drop cords and explain that as long as there is grid power you will allow them to help you clean and straighten up the first room. You explain that no one is to go into the second room, or open the hatch.

They all agree and your time below starts..

09:50 - Day 8

The lights are lowered down to you. Your headlamp makes working with two hands easy but unfortunately where ever you look, as per se into someone’s face the light shines..

After getting the lights setup and turned on you figure you have under a half hour before the grid goes off if they keep the two hour schedule that have been keeping.

You have the kids gather and hand down a broom, dust pan and a spare bucket and all come down to help.

10:05 - Day 8

The kids start to pick things up and Mary starts sweeping. It becomes clear very quickly that everyone needs to have a dust mask on. You stop the sweeping just about the time the power goes off and Shelly shrieks for a second then realizes it’s just the power going off. They kids all laugh and she gets embarrassed and stomps up the ladder. As she gets to the top she yells down, “come on, Trey said we could only work when we had power..” to which you nod and the kids shuffle over to the ladder and up into the bathroom.

As you get up the ladder and shut the hatch then the closet door you realize your all dusty and need to wash up.

Need to figure that in while the grid power is on. You explain to everyone that they need to wash up and from now on they will need to use dust masks if they are going down stairs and wear older work cloths. Mary jokingly comments “all our clothes are work clothes now” and as you all giggle and wash up Trisha stands at the bathroom door smiling from ear to ear.
