NBC's opening of the U.S. Open Golf Championship today included two readings of the Pledge of Allegiance, but omitted the phrase "under God" both times.

The program commenced with children standing in a classroom setting, as they recited the "abbreviated" version of the Pledge, saying: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all."

So they changed the words.... not really the Pledge of Allegiance then is it. I guess its the "well I kinda agree what this country was built on... but not entirely because my world view has changed" pledge.

Doesn't bother me, just makes another prophecy proven.

Nothing wrong with that. I pledge allegiance to my country, but I have no belief in a higher being so I omit those words as well. The 1st Amendment should have included freedom from religion to go along with freedom of religion.

America is nothing more than a nation that follows the most popular ideas. We have no true foundation, including the Constitution. If you don't like it, don't worry about going through the democratic process of making a change, just teach our children the wrong way to follow. I'm definitely not hoping this happens, but if anything like 9/11 happens again, I hope NBC keeps their cameras out of the churches and keep the "pray for our nation" mini-commercials off of their station.

It is not their Pledge to change. If they are doing it to protest then they should just not say it. If they find it to be wrong then appeal to congress to have it changed. In the mean time either ignore it, or say it as it is. That is the point.
