    Not sure who said it....

"What this generation tolerates, the next embraces".

If we tolerate all this pandering, PC, BS of allowing the revision of our traditions and history, what do we expect our kids to do? We reap what we sow.

I believe Mr. Adams to have been a very intelligent man. I think his point is being proven on a daily basis as we all sit here watching the collapse of our society.

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

You mean like when it was revised in 1954 by the generation which really got the ball rolling on the downfall of our country?

Not sure why anyone's getting upset over a pledge to the government that was designed by a socialist, with the intent to strengthen socialism.

And sell flags. People would crap if they knew Bellamy delivered sermons on the virtues of socialism in his church. He was eventually pushed out of his church after delivering sermons with such titles as "Jesus the Socialist". Or that he shared his cousin's dream of an America where everyone earned the same wage and was drafted into the "Industrial Army" at age 21 only to work in a state assigned job. Heck, Bellamy founded the Nationalists Club of Boston.

I also find it interesting that the original pledge contained the words equality and fraternity in place of liberty and justice. The problem there is, he couldn't sell that to the schools. He received push-back from school administrators because, well, black people and women weren't equal at the time.

"Under God" was added to the pledge in 1954, so it's more a reversion to the original than anything else.
Easy for you to say since you didn't have to recite the original Pledge in first grade and then learn the revised one the following year.

Edit: Google search finds NBC has apologized and stated it was not intentional. Would like to know the whole story.

History shows us that great movements/plans/ideas came from the most unlikely people. It really doesn't matter to me who was used to bring the pledge into existence. I've been saying it since 1973 and as of right now, it's the only thing I know, besides the National Anthem, that brings every American into one accord for the 10 seconds it takes to recite it. At least with the Pledge, people can remember the words. I am still amazed by the number of people who do not know the National Anthem. Maybe their parents had issues with the words. :dunno:

Mission accomplished. Thinking, shut down. Blind allegiance, check.

And no, great "plans" and 'ideas" don't come from national socialists.

I don't think he had to say the Pledge in the first grade.
    He's Canadian.

As for me, blind allegiance to my country will always be the case. if I don't like something I will work to change it, but not sit back and complain about it or ridicule those who give their allegiance. It's not about thinking being shut down, but having the ability to make changes to things that I don't like.

Mission not accomplished. Still unable to think. No allegiance to anything but selfishness.

Nothing wrong with that. I pledge allegiance to my country, but I have no belief in a higher being so I omit those words as well. The 1st Amendment should have included freedom from religion to go along with freedom of religion.

That's about the dumbest thing I've read on INGO.

Could you define freedom from religion and tell me how enforcing it wouldn't infringe on those who practice within a belief system?

But as the original Pledge didn't include those words, I'm fine with not having them in there. They are exclusionary and come perilously close to a violation of the 1st in spirit, if not in fact.

The downfall ball got rolling long before 1954, my friend. Try 40-50 years earlier with the beginning of the progressive movement.

"really got the ball rolling". I was sure to add "really" to indicate that it was already rolling, but they found new & inventive ways to increase its velocity.

FDR forced us into WWII with all of his might. He drastically expanded social programs. The voting citizens who gave him power also empowered those who added "under God" to the pledge in '54.

What? The pledge WAS changed in 1954. The original version DIDN'T have "under God" in it. I don't see how your point is in any way relevant. I didn't even pronounce a judgement on the change, simply stated a relevant fact.

I'm not really sure where you get that idea, or what your reasoning is for the Canadian insult. I went to elementary school in Portage, Indiana. We did say the Pledge of Allegiance. :patriot:

    Not meant as an insult.
You've stated in previous posts that you were Canadian. :dunno:
    EDIT:
I apologize. I was thinking of another member with a similar name.
In any case it wasn't meant as an insult to Canadians.
