How long do you think those requests took to approve? If the media abided by those rules, the heck I'd have no problem with them doing the same with domestic law enforcement. But honestly, who are we kidding? You think the media would agree to hold a story until an OP is completed, when local and independent press would break such a story much earlier? ....the public wants the gist (even if completely wrong), well before the details.

How long has this been going on?
Seems plenty of time. Maybe find a previously embedded reporter.
I don't think it would take many. Besides, the police deal with reporters in other places. Why is this different?

I'm still waiting for the Feds to come out and give details on how the shooting went down. The longer they draw it out the more I'm betting they screwed the pooch.

I wasn't even going to wait that long. I can't remember a time that they didn't screw the pooch.

What's the alternative now that things have played out the way they have?

Completely serious question ... what should they do at this moment?

Added: Your comment brings up a good question ... is it even possible to leave in a peaceable manner? Can they be armed when they leave? How far down the road would they get before the feds execute a felony stop on individual vehicles?

At this point, unless there is a clear official offer of amnesty, they don't have a hell of a lot to loose by at minimum staying put and going for broke if they get rushed.

The biggest thing I've noticed in the statements the feds are putting out is a sense of arrogance on their part, and that is disheartening.

    Their lives.
Can make themselves look more "reasonable" advancing their cause.

Well, I guess that depends on how you measure it. They can lose their lives now (i.e., become dead) or they can lose their lives slowly over a long period of time (i.e., be put in a cage) during which they will be forgotten once the 24 hours news cycle moves on to the next shiny object and promptly be forgotten with little difference made one way or the other regarding their cause.
