Actually the Iraqis got Glocks cause they were the Cheapest unit Price in the quantity that was asked for in a Rapid filling...

Had absolutely nothing to do with performance...

Article I read said nothing about the unit price, but since I can't quote sources(it was in some gun rag I read yrs back)I won't argue....I think glocks should win but lacking external safety mite just give the m&p the win....just my .02

The M&P was designed to win the "next" military contract. Thus all of the features that the military generally wants are on the standard M&P.

I'd have wagered the M&P45 would've been a front-runner in the JCP trials, had they not been shelved.

WTF do People keep coming up with the External Safety being a Requirement...

The Sig P226 actually won the XM9 Weapons Trial but lost doe to Sig not being the better Package Price. Last time I checked my Sig P226 does not have an External Safety on it...

    Why?!
Cause the Pistol is Named the M&P as a Throwback in brand marketing to a Series of Revolver that S&W made 50+ Years ago...

I don't see why the external safety is an issue at all. If you don't want to use it, then don't use it. I've met enough forest gumps to believe having a safety on a gun is not the worst thing in the world. I was really hoping that when the XDM 45acp was coming out that it'd have one.

I think it may stem from the original solicitation for the JCP asking for safety and non-safety models.

DoD can do as they please, I guess, but I'll be damned if I'm going to trade my M9 for anything! :twocents:

You know, I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think what we need is a Lemat revolver with a rail on it. It has pretty good capacity, plus that shot shell. Hey, it was good enough to be picked up once, why not now?

    Well.....
We'll just have to disagree. :)
I grew up reading Jeff Cooper, Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, Bill Jordan, and other guys who actually used their handguns in self defense.
Not some computer geek who made a program showing the "probable" results of wound ballistics.
The accounts by the "old timers" are loaded with first hand information.
You might try reading some of them. I think you'll like their writings and come away with a fresh perspective on the strong, and weak points of handgun calibers. :yesway:

If the proven 1911 is not a choice I will go with bacon.

I chose Glock because the 1911 wasnt a choice. Probably one the easiest pistols to maintain ,no external safety to fumble with & is already the choice of the
Austrian armed forces (I think still)
