In all fairness, the Paris attack was so huge and immediately recognizable as jihad that it stood out. For the first 12-18 hours this attack was chalked up to being just another mass shooting.

The France attack was pretty over the top. If Facebook were a thing back on 9/11/2001, probably there would be the overlays. On the other hand, people want to be seen caring. Nearly any excuse will do. But maybe this has been too politicized in the US for it to become that. It's raged into a debate on gun control. And that's the sad part. Instead of mourning the 14 dead, we're arguing politics over here. Like Obama says, why not politicize it?

There was just a police Sgt. On CNN (who was having a very bad hair day) claiming that she was SURE it was just workplace violence. She said that if it was a terrorist act, that they would have shot more people. The interviewer said "what about the pipe bombs", and she "corrected" him and said "alleged pipe bombs".
