I estimated about 70mph.

Average speed, maybe. But at the time of impact I'd say it's more like 8-10 meters/sec. It looks like it lost a lot of speed by the time it started to cross the road. So maybe 960 to 1500 joules. Still, that's a heck of a thing to happen. Wow.

Well we can calculate the speed. Approximate the distance the wheel travels, and the time it took to get there. Distance is what, about 170ft, over 2-3seconds?

Like I said. That’s an average speed. Not the speed at impact. 170 feet is a good estimate from when the tire is first noticeable to the point of impact. But it slows down noticeably by the time it starts crossing the road. So I thought a more realistic estimate is using the distance crossing the road and the time that took.
