Nah. That's just some nonsense theatrical glue George Lucus used to try to fill in some plot holes between his brain fart prequils and the original story. But in the grand scheme of things, becoming one with the force was sort of smoothed out with novels and games establishing the history of the Old Republic, where Sith and Grey Jedi dabbled with immortality. Establishing all that sort of made Lucas's glue make a little more sense.
