Once you say that government shouldn't be able to legislate morality in one area, then it's hypocritical to say that it's OK to legislate morality in any other area.

I disagree with this sentiment... This assumes that Religion holds a monopoly on morality which is ridiculous.

Just because the Bible states "thou shalt not kill" doesn't mean that because I'm an Atheist I condone murder.

The radical individuals on the extreme rightwing do not want any form of morality, even yours. There should be NO rules, total freedom.

More than 1 wife! That would have to be a brave/rich man.

Knew a Saudi AF Major who had two wives. He complained that even though he had a house for each wife and a third house for his mother and brothers, he had no place for himself. And between his two wives and his mother, he had no free time.

Had an Afghanistani who had two wives and 14 children. He was only 35.

But then we had lots of old men with a "young" third or fourth wife. Generally they were between 10 and 14.

Not to long ago women were considered property and unable to enter legal contracts. The idea that animals have rights equal to humans is not that much of a stretch.

Everything has been going downhill since women were no longer chattel.

I'm not arguing your point, it's a good one and it brings up a much larger issue...

Once you say that government shouldn't be able to legislate morality in one area, then it's hypocritical to say that it's OK to legislate morality in any other area.

It opens the floodgates for any laws that are based on morality to be challenged - ALL the malum in se laws. I mean couldn't it be argued that laws prohibiting theft, perjury, fraud, battery, incest, rape, murder, are based on biblical morality, and that there must be separation of church and state? Just because one person thinks one thing is immoral, doesn't mean everyone else does.

So then society as a whole, not some religious text, should decide what's moral, correct? I mean if there is no higher authority than man, then mankind should decide what is moral.

Didn't society do just that in California with Prop 8? By a large margin I might add.

Should 91% (if that number is even remotely accurate) of the people polled be able to tell congress to take away the right to keep and bear arms, to buy sell and trade without the government's intrusion into the citizens' business.

If there is no higher authority than man, then society must decide, correct?

I'm not taking sides just debating/presenting one possible argument. I can definitely see both sides of the debate.

Interesting. I was just saying the current legal aspect is hypocritical. IMO the governments job is to protect the rights of its people; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Ergo murder as a "moral" issue is irrelevant as it directly infringes on one or more basic rights. Dictating whom one can or cannot marry, on the other hand, also violates at least one right and thus should be anathema to a "moral" government. Marriage is a religious institute and congress should make no law regulating it. Thus civil unions per the government and marriage through the church. The government can create civil unions for whoever and should not tell the church who they are able to join in matrimony. If gay/multiple/inanimate object marriage is against God's will, He will take care of it when the time comes.

As far as multiple spouses and the 5A rights to spouse there could be a legal designation as to which spouse that is, like a POA. not too hard a problem to solve.

If evolution has taught us anything, its that the more oppressive the environment is, the more drastic the change required to overcome it.

If evolution has taught us anything it's that two men on a desert island or two women on a desert island would never be able to procreate and carry on the line...Dragging evolution into a conversation about gay marriage kind of kills the argument for gay marriage....If you believe in an unproven 150 year old theory that is...

Two iguanas on Galapogos island are talking and one of them says..."Clive...Does this enviroment seem oppressive to you? If it is we are going to need some DRASTIC change to overcome it..."

I should rep you for one of the funniest lines I have ever read on INGO...

Conform...Conform...You know gay marriage is okay..Conform...Lady Ga Ga says it's so it must be so...Conform...All of the cool people agree...Conform...If you do not come into the modern age we will have to take drastic measures to get you to conform...Conform....

Evolution didn't teach us that. That is basic human physiology. Hippocrates knew this.

Please elaborate on this "unproven" theory. I want to rep what is surely to be one of the funniest comments on INGO.

"Marriage equality for all" .... do they mean it? Do they also support cousin, sibling, or parent/child marriages? I'm not condoning or condemning, just asking if "equality for all"really means for all.

All of the above will be the natural progression after legalization of gay "marriage". All of this political correctness is the liberals' best weapon. They want society to swallow the lie that if you stand up against this stuff then it means you are a bigot. BS!!!!!!!!! Political correctness can take a flying leap. All of it is wrong, sick, twisted, and perverted. The damage will be hard or impossible to reverse. Gay marriage is the first step, but the flood gates will be very hard to close, maybe its already too late. If you stand up for what is right, you will be criticized, and probably severely criticized. But that just might be a sign that you are doing the right thing. They want to silence the voice of good in the name of good. As important as it is to stand up and fight for your 2A rights, its just as important to fight in this arena. They push all these radical things upon us in the name of freedom. I don't buy it, it is a threat to freedom, and therefore it is inherently evil. It makes perfect sense, freedom is the target of socialism. When they dismantle freedom in the land of the free, the rest of the world will follow us down the drain like freight cars following a locomotive off a bridge. We are at the bridge people. Time to fight.

I'm not clear here...you're suggesting that if gay people can marry it threatens your freedom?

    How?

Whatever makes people happy. If guy wants multiple wives and the wives agree...I say let them do what they want. I believe the original intent of outlawing polygamy way back when was these women were used almost like slaves. Hard to get away with that in today's culture. If a guy can handle it...let em have fun!
