The cops may not want to pick on yuppies. They tend to be more sympathetic to the media and the public. Especially pretty young blond women.

It is one thing to harass rednecks and ghetto types. But yuppies not only vote but they have lawyers and good press. This young woman could have been any young professional woman. It will backfire on the police.

The yuppies want the lower classes "controlled". But see themselves as above the laws.

Perhaps they are simply living up to the local standard? Maybe Hostess and Krispy Kreme were hoping to get lucky in lieu of supplying transportation, room, and board at taxpayer expense? You seem to forgot the political aspects. Yuppies vote, they are very articulate and often young and good looking. Thus they get good press. Not something that the mayor may want.

Yes, the cops even look down their nose at the mayor. But the mayor does have the political power.

BTW, once society stabilizes somewhat, the cops will have less reason to do what they are doing. But in an unstable society, the police are the last vestiges of morality.

the big thing about police work, especially patrol, is that you are sitting down most of the day. Like a trucker or heavy equipment operators. Both of those fields are filled with overweight people.
