I disagree. If you only have access to a facility such as MCFG and you want to practice the lessons you learned in a training class, what should you do? Just because you own a pistol-caliber rifle doesn't mean that is your only rifle.

What if a pistol caliber WAS your only rifle?

I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of 9mm AR's, Sub2k's etc. I understand Que's point. And they can be a fun or useful "other" gun. But as a home defense or truck gun, why not just get a 5.56? It's not any heavier, but the difference in lethality is exponential.

Just my opinion, and for what it's worth, I didn't watch the video. And I won't, either.

    What a dumbass.
My Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt generates right at 1650 fpe.
No, that's still not quite as powerful as my .30-06 (3000 fpe), but it's damn respectable, and I wouldn't feel underarmed in the slightest with it.
    JY is a total tool.

I beg to differ. Tools are useful.

But they are fun, and you can kill deer with some of them! But yeah, they are stupid, everyone should sell them at a loss right now, before word gets out and they are completely worthless!

and then I might be able to afford another one...

Wait....wasn't JY on the 300blk bandwagon a couple years ago, explaining how amazing it is? Yet, in subsonic form, it's muzzle energy is roughly equivalent compared to a hot .45? Geesshh...but I do love seeing him when he's angry

    I like to shoot steel.

My range is less than 100 yards.

I cannot shoot rifle rounds at steel from less than 100 yards....safely.

I can shoot pistol calibers at steel from less than 100 yards.

    Ergo....James Yeager is an idiot.

If you live in an apartment complex and you don't really want to kill your next two neighbors...then you probably don't want a higher penetrating round....:twocents:

Yep, still an idiot. Still hard to watch.

I assume he really means "for self defense"? If so, I get his argument. Don't necessarily AGREE with it, but I get it. Gotta ignore all other possible uses for a pistol caliber carbine, though.

One reason for having a pistol caliber carbine is ammo commonality. Another question is what do you need the carbine to do? If you're a LEO officer and the longest distance you'll be shooting in a fight is +/- 100yds then a pistol caliber carbine works, and if your pistol ammo and magazines work in it, it works even better! Similarity in the weapon could be another reason. A hypothetical new gun owner who only ones 1--let's say a Glock--could get a carbine upper for their Glock and upgrade their handgun for HD
