Subway Planned to Rebrand Jared Fogle*as a Family Man Before FBI Raid - Bloomberg Business

I've been waiting for the "has hung himself with a sheet" headline for a few days. Most people have the option of fading into obscurity after pooping the bed so messily, but when you're as recognizable as this guy is....

Let's open up this up for debate. Jared is being charged with having sex with a minor, because the girls he had sex with were 16, and the age of consent, in NY, is 17. Now in Indiana, the age of consent is 16, meaning that his sex acts would be perfectly legal (aside from the prostitution part) if he had been in a hotel in Indiana. So how bad should this crime be considered? Should it be 360 months (max per fed law)?
As for possession of child pornography, yeah, he's screwed.

IMHO, the kiddie porn is plenty for him to be locked away. Doesn't matter to me if he downloaded it, made it, or what - involved at all he's someone that needs a very long time out.

As for 16-vs-17, I guess if you're stupid enough to break a law that's easy to know then you get to pay. Had they lied to him and said they were 17, then it would only be a matter of being super creepy having sex with someone that young.

For your hypothetical, are we also going to ignore the solicitation of even younger girls for commercial sex? Trying to get the "older" girls to procure 13-14 year olds?

Not to mention that he allegedly requested to have sex as a pre-condition with those he was trying to partner with in the procurement of the 13-14 year olds to insure that they were not a member of law enforcement. He knew what he was doing was against the law.

I take issue with the child porn, he should have known better, he's going to pay the price, and he is going to lose everything including his wife. But as all of us have to learn at some point, there are consequences for our actions (unless you are a Democrat politician, but this is not the place for splitting hairs).

As far as having consensual sex with 16 or 17 year old girls, I would agree that it is immoral as hell, no argument. But I simply can't get my brain around spending years in prison for that. Was he doing other bad things? Probably. He knew he was breaking the law. He took the risk. Gambled and lost big. Had it made. Bad decisions caught up to him. Threw it all away. Stupid.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

A coming fight in the "sexual revolution" will be the chipping away at age of consent laws. They will be lowered- drastically, over time, and the basis will be the claimed Constitutional rights of the minors. Not today, probably not next year, but it's coming.

In another time Jared's concern regarding these girls wouldn't be the law, it'd be what their dads might do to him...
