Why do you need a 50 post count to reply to a private message?

Is there a reason that I can't reply to a message that was sent to me? Seems a little odd, I'll abide by it, but just don't understand the reason.

When this forum started back in 2008 it was a forum designed to build a community. As panic set in from this recent election and then followed by Sandy Hook, the reality is that many people have come here to make a quick buck and not join the 'community' of shooters/collectors that has grown. They are here for the classified and don't really contribute to the overall knowledge base of the community.

So all that said, the focus here is on the forums and public interactions and trading of information rather than on private messages, gun/parts trades, etc.

Stick around, contribute to the the discussions, join us and you'll fit in just fine.

I think the 50 post rule is great. It makes a new member spend some time on here and get a "feel" for how the site works. It also lets current members get a feel for you. It also makes you become part of the community by being involved. (At least it did for me....and I'm still a newbie but have a better understanding of the flow of the site.)

Because this is a forum, not craigslist/gunbroker/armslist.

Why do you have to have 50 post to respond to a classified? What a bunch of crap.
It is a forum 1st. the classifieds was something they added later. Stick around, talk to people, impart the information contained in your head to the rest of us. If you want into the classifieds right away become a site supporter

Couldn't be bothered to read the FAQ before complaining about the decor in someone's else's house, eh? I'll bet you're a hoot at parties.

I understand not allowing people to come in here and immediately start hawking items, but I just ran across something that I would like to buy, yet I can't even send a PM.

    Very odd.
