Someone guessed this early on, eh?
I ain't selling nothing, brothers, just telling my story and throwing some questions out there. You make your own choices, it's your health after all. But I'd be amiss if I didn't give you something as a takeaway from this thread to chew on.

I eat at least 2 eggs every day. I meat at each of my 3 meals a day, sausage or bacon at breakfast, deli meat for lunch, generally beef or pork for supper. My cholesterol stays around 180 and I am 62.

I don't like people like this. The eat the food my food eats. If they eat my foods food than what does my food eat?
Great point, brother! That's something that turnede off to a lot of meat products, was seeing how inefficient they are to produce (and unnatural--have you ever seen a cow eat corn or soybeans in nature? Nope, because corn was on a different continent and soybeans have to be cooked first). So why do we feed tons (literally, TONS) of food to animals who in turn poop most of it out and turn the rest into inefficient protein and cholesterol, when we could be eating it ourselves and cut out the unhealthy middleman? Plus, saves us us a ton of money at the grocery store and the hospital (even saves us the ride to the hospital, because we never need to go! )

That's amazing, sir! I hope your health continues strong, and that no cancerous cells or inflammation result.

you might not consider yourself a vegan or vegetarian, then why come here telling us how unhealthy and inefficient meat is? I was interested in where this thread was going but the vegan speech is bothersome. I’m a reformed fat guy. Get blood work annually. I eat meat daily and have perfect numbers. I just don’t buy that meat is a death sentence like so many people claim.

But if I don't have to eat a dead animal to stay alive and be healthy, then why do it? Live and let live, I'd say. No need to go round killing stuff if I don't need to (and I did a lot of that in the past that I'm not proud of. You name it, I've eaten it. Have you ever had snapping turtle eggs? Wish I'd have known they were illegal...)

There's a lot of info out there that this isn't really correct. People who don't eat meat often have protein deficiencies and the plant based proteins rarely bridge the gap sufficiently. Look at our teeth and it'll tell you what God designed us to eat.

Also, it's recently come to light that all that "science" for the last few decades that talked about how bad red meat is for us humans is nothing but Left wing propaganda. We were designed for a balanced diet of meat, fish, veggies, fruits, legumes, nuts and such, not eating just one side or the other. A plant based diet is no more correct than the carnivore diet.

Not a death sentence, just unnecessary and not a normal or healthy part of a primate diet. The problem is we overdo it. It's no longer about survival, now we all eat like kings (who were often diabetic, overweight, with blackened rotten teeth because they ate lots of animals and sweets, because they were the most expensive and the most addictive). When we eat a lot of meat, the rest of our diet suffers (you'd be surprised how many people take supplements, like vitamins, etc. because they just don't get it from their food). Also, being in academia, I know how scientific research works, and it's not something you should put your faith in. The research showing animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) cause cancer growth cells to grow exponentially while plant products cause them to decrease and go dormant, that research not only got unfunded, but they went after the researcher and his family personally and tried to smear his reputation. Our government has a lot of our money and can be quite efficient with using it for it's own purposes, whether withholding it from research, or paying lawyers. I don't blame them, though, or think it's a conspiracy, it's just how the system has been set up and it works really well.

Like I said, balanced diet. I have no problem eating fruits and veggies, right alongside a nice piece of meat. I don't overdo it if I can help it. I prefer eating 5 or 6 oz of meat with double that or so of sides.

So if only the government gave someone (*cough* you) more money, they (you) would be able to prove that meat, dairy and eggs are going to kill us all? Why should we put our faith in that research?

That sounds a lot like the arguments for socialism. All the other failed socialist systems just haven't been doing it right yet.

I don’t think that’s a bad topic to discuss at all. People here are just a little leery of a new member who’s joined up a day ago and it seems like they’re winding up for a sales pitch rather than to be a long-term member of a firearms community.

If you can pull off both and have thick skin, I see no reason why you can’t fit in here. :)

As for the poll? The weight loss battle is won or lost in the kitchen. Exercise is an important element of proper health (something I need to make significant improvement in myself), but you can’t work out enough to make up for a horrible diet. If you’re eating 5,000 calories a day, you’d be hard pressed to exercise enough to keep health in balance. So I voted food, but inactivity goes hand-in-hand.
I've also heard from doctors that a "vegan" couch potato will outstrip a "normal" couch potato in both numbers and overall health. I can't verify that myself but I can say that all the exercise I've done never did anything for me until I changed what I eat. Now I can be a couch potato if I want, eat as much as I want, and still be healthier than I've ever been. But, if I want to get a 6-pack, I just do situps for a week and voila. The protein I get naturally goes straight to whatever my needs are, so if it's building muscle, then that's where it goes. Otherwise, if I don't use it, I just poop it all out, plant proteins and fats don't stay on you if you don't use them, which is nice.

You've heard from doctors... but you also said we can't trust the research... so which is it? Only trust the research that confirms your beliefs?
