No doubt, you're covering a LOT of the spectrum... Rugers, Berettas, CZ's and clones (Witness models), a world of 1911s, lots of plastic guns...

There are tons of great handguns for under $1000. You have a massive selection, almost too many to choose from. Glock would be MY first choice but following that, CZ, Smith and Wesson M&P, Beretta 92, Springfield XDm... You'll have to narrow down what you are looking for, you're spoiled for choice on this one!

IMHO, No. The TRP is a much better gun for a similar price.

If you are just talking about enjoyable shooting, there are even more guns under 1000 than just the quality brands that you would trust your life on. I enjoy shooting my $200 tokarev, it packs a decent punch and is utterly reliable, although it does not have all the desirable characteristics of a SD pistol. You could probably buy the gun plus 10k rounds for a G and become a great pistol shot in the process.

It is enjoyable to shoot, as are various magnum wheelguns, sigs, 1911's, CZ, etc.
