The LGBT movement has declared a law banning public sexual indecency as "banning LGBT."

Even the writer notes that this applies to straight couples as well. Yet they still push this propaganda.
Really makes you think what "LGBT" stands for.
    A) Murfreesboro is not rural. Have you been there lately?
    B) WTF won't these websites give me a link so I can actually read the ordinance?!
    C) I went to Puckett's there a a year and a half ago (because it's amazing!) after Bonnaroo. I really don't think they have anything to worry about; that city is ultra-right-white. It's probably the northern limit of The Lost Cause.
    D) Meh. Sounds like virtue signally from both sides. City: "Look! We're anti-groomer!". Woke: "Look we're anti-fascism".
    E) I will stop at Puckett's and Mayday brewing every time I'm in Murfreesboro.

Has he bothered to see what public schools are teaching?

I don't know, but I don't see how that undermines the premise of his criticisms. If we want to say both have their serious issues that is fine, but no one here walks on water.

I've always thought that home schooled children should have to annually pass basic tests to see that they are keeping up with public school kids on general knowledge.

    Regards,

    Doug

That is a problem? Never seen anything about that. But maybe public school children should have to annually pass basic tests to see that they are keeping up with home schooled kids on general knowledge. I see lots of articles on that.

I do see where home schooled kids out perform public school kids and parents think it isn’t fair that home schooled kids win all the spelling bees and other contests…

That's an end run to effectively eliminate home schooling's purpose.

Which is to make sure your child receives an education devoid of state propaganda.

They might actually have a point for this one. Under the definition of sexual conduct it lists "homosexuality" by itself. So two guys holding hands or kissing would be prohibited, but not a guy and a girl.
"Sexual conduct" means acts of masturbation, homosexuality, sexual intercourse, or physical contact with a person's clothed or unclothed genitals, pubic area, buttocks or, if such person be a female, breast

Can't find the new civil penalty ordinance, but I believe the part that they find objectionable is what I posted above.

I don't care where kids get an education, at home, public school, private school, foreign school, etc.

I just think there ought to be some minimal bar to actually prove that the kids are really learning how to read, do math, understand history, understand English grammar, government, sociology, science, etc. These were ALL classes I took in a good public school.

If a home schooled kid is aging into what should be their sophomore year of high then they bloody well ought to prove to someone that they've learned what any reasonable freshman would have learned, otherwise mommy and daddy are dropping the ball and hurting their children.

Let's not overlook that when I was in high school we also had the option of learning Spanish, French, Latin and my last year Japanese.

I took speech class as well. It did help me later on. Home school kids cannot give a presentation in front of a room of mostly strangers.

I will repeat that I don't care how children are educated. However, education is the one thing I'm a bit socialist on, not from government control or ideology. Rather, I believe education is the greatest gift any society can offer its citizens. With a better education a person has far more opportunities in life. They are more versatile, more adaptable, and have a fundamental understanding of the world around them and how we got here today. Education is the first step in upskilling ourselves to allow us to reach closer to achieving our maximum potential and thus happiness and success, however you define that.

There are two problems with this

    1) Although there is plentiful evidence that public schools are failing to teach many students what you think are necessary mental skills, you do not advocate for any such test on the products of public schools. Why wouldn't you want ALL schools to prove they are educating their students - why do public schools get a pass?

    2) What if the competency test is manipulated to require proficiency in government propaganda. Will home schooled children be required to demonstrate their knowledge of Critical Race Theory or Queer Theory or retconned US 'history' like The 1619 Project? As others said, such would defeat the purpose of home schooling

in repeated studies, the AVERAGE homeschooled student does higher than the AVERAGE public schooled student.

As for 'can not give a speech, or oral presentation, or awkward around people'...
The findings on social skills seem to be more mixed. Some studies have found no difference in social skills between children in homeschool environments versus conventional schools, some studies have found that homeschooled children score higher on measures of social ability, and some have found that homeschooled children score lower on overall social skills. Not surprisingly, homeschooled students who have had more opportunities for peer interactions tend to show improved social skills.

    .
I can understand having some sort of proficiency test to determine if kids are learning, the devil though is in the details. Who writes the test and what are the questions, who "grades" the tests?

I hear plenty of noise from the education industrial complex about "testing". Do home school people say the same thing and it's just not on the news?

You have a solution looking for a problem. Its not like we have scores of uneducated "homeschool" students out there. Homeschoolers tend to be head and shoulders above public school kids. Every homeschool kid I know will run CIRCLES around a public school kid, as well as most private school kids.

And that solution isnt very Libertarian of you. :nono: Just sayin.
