Or that most people buy 1 gun (maybe 2) and a LOT of boxes of ammo (if it's available). It means the gun makers have reacted to the demand much faster than the Ammo makers
I was at Terre haute Gander mountain and seen people paying $26.99 for 100 round boxes of cci 22 LR.
I shoke my head and left,WONT EVER GO BACK
After going in about a month ago and seeing regular .308 for $50.00 a box, I'm done with Gander and will never shop there again. Just taking advantage.
I know there are those who are going to throw their "capitalist ideals" at me and bang on about making a buck, supply and demand and all the rest of it. But its simply taking advantage of people during difficult times.

Ahh the notorious 50 buck .308 and 24-26 dollar .22. These two monsters are priced the same as they were six months ago. One is the Federal Match Sierra 168 BTHP and the other is this Federal Ultra Match low velocity .22 ....? Not you typical range fodder. These prices usually run 10-20% higher than most LGS, but that isn't news to anyone, and is not some last minute gouge. Its the only stuff you saw because all of the $1.99 federal .22 and $8 no name brass .308 was sold off.
Oh, people whine because they can't get it for what they were paying last year, or because hoarders and flippers buy it all up. There may be more to it than simply gouging. Gander's kind of high at the best of times, and you know that. Maybe they're marking it up some to discourage hoarders and flippers, so it'll more likely be there if you really need some. Maybe, just maybe, they're paying more for it themselves, and it's marked up proportionally. Maybe they're just a bunch of richards. While things are this crazy is not the best time to evaluate whether or not to boycott someplace forever, unless they've done something egregious like CTD or Dick's.
I just stopped in the Castleton store. The guy told me Friday is "ammo day" and the line starts forming outside the store about 6AM!
Went there at lunch Friday (got a Model 12 ) and the ammo shelves were pretty full. Far more so than on Thursday.
I made the mistake of stopping in the G M store on East 86th Street in Indianapolis this afternoon. Their display cases are absolutely filled with handguns. The prices seemed to me to be 10 to 15 percent too high, but they had exactly what I was looking for. I did not buy, prefer to wait and see if a local dealer can supply me at a better price. Looked like they had virtually one of every revolver everyone makes. I'm not much interested in the semiautos so did not look closely, but they had a bunch of them too. Eye candy with a price tag!
But they still did not have any .22LR or .22WMR.
But what kind of ammo was there? We were there Friday morning and all the handgun was behind the counters and sold by ticket number. Tickets were passed out in line in order of when you got there. Shotgun ammo they said they got 2 pallets and to take as much as we wanted. Rifle ammo (other then 223) should be looking good (I only looked for 30-06 but the shelves looked good).
I Think that might be part of the problem/There are signs in the store for the literate.
