I find it ironic that NOWHERE that I searched specifically for a criminal record for the deceased Mr. McGlockton.

So I get into the Pinellas County records and find this for one Markeis McGlockton, born March 1990 (aged 28). I'm not certain this record and the deceased are exactly the same but the odds favor it.

As I watched the video several times. After the aggressor shoved the old man to the ground. He immediately took a step towards the downed man. Then backed off. When he seen the man draw.
He should have backed off before assaulting the old man.

Mea culpa. I didn't see that.

What I was seeing was several other folks (two, I think) saying what a meanie asshat Mr. Drejka was. Which is fine. But, two (2) times v/s that page? The media is lying by omission when it fails to show that Mr. McGlockton had multiple criminal encounters over his lifetime.

If they want to bring up the number of times one guy was a jerkwad then they need to do it equally for the other as well was my only gripe.

Only partially a valid comparison. In the parking lot hero case, the attack was over the second that the gun was pulled. In the Trayvon case, the shooting was a completely justified use of force.

The similarity is that in both cases, we have a wannabe cop with a handgun permit initiating the confrontation.

Why? because as long as we have a justice system we don't get to decide who survives unless we are under immediate threat. I don't think it's clear whether or not the shooter had time to change his mind about the shooting. And while I agree that 3 people here misbehaved, the only real legal question is that moment right when the shot was fired.

It's drama not only because someone was killed (someone of questionable reputation to be sure) but because this reflect on gun owners and on self-defense laws.

Unless I'm mistaken, fourteen of the listed offenses were in traffic court. Driving while black in Pinellas County is never a sure thing.

Straightforward? I watched this and found this full of opinions and assumptions. I also took issue with his statement that black women don't de-escalate and in fact do the opposite. He doesn't get a pass just because he's black and talking about his race. It doesn't make it any more true. Just for the record, he is 100% wrong. He is also exaggerating that McGlockton was TWICE the size of Drejka, that again is wrong. He also justified the shooting because when Drejka pointed the pistol, McGlockton didn't run away (he admitted that he didn't advance either). His argument assumes that there are only 2 choices when you pull a gun and point it at a person. That you shoot them OR you holster up. Again wrong. I really don't like Cuomo's emotional arguments on CNN but Sotomayor isn't doing any better. He just gets a pass because his views align with those on this board. In reality, the truth sits in between both sides.
