Flag flying in "distress"

Curious as to why you feel this way?


Section 8a of the United States Flag Code states, "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property."

I would say that Socialism and the road to it is "extreme danger to my property and affects my life (danger to life is a gray area, unless they come to take things from me by force)

Because it's nothing more than a political statement. Get a bed sheet...spray paint on it "Obama Sucks" and run that up the flag pole.

Your life isn't in danger...no one has come to blow up or burn down your house. It's politics...and the flag shouldn't be used as such.

I'm probably going to make some people really mad here, but the above by public servant is right on, show respect for our flag, our country and the people who have gave up their life defending it.

Do exactly like public servant suggested or fly the Gadsen or anything else under it.

You want to fly it upside down, tromp on it or burn it, move to a middle eastern country that shares your view on disrespecting our flag.

I went with the "greyman" option because the Grey Area in this question is who's the audience. At a protest where it will be seen by obama and his administration for dramatic effect with your full intentions explained. Go Ahead.

In your front yard where the only viewers are going to be people who won't understand or who will take offense at your message well then I'd say Douchebag because you aren't getting the result you're looking for anyhow.

I do like that song, but have one point of contention:
Soldiers did not give us the right to be free.
Politicians did not give us the right to be free.
It is an inalienable right, given by God.
(even atheists should endorse this view).
Why?
Because if God granted it, no government has the authority to take it away.
But if by some act of some man somehow did something that made you free, that means that there were/are/will be circumstances where you are not meant to be free.

I know it seems like nitpicking, but it really isn't.
It is a big deal to allow legalese creep into conversation so you get swindled out of your rights.
It is the slipperly slope to how we constantly lose liberties and freedoms.

And the last war for my freedom was in 1776.
(funny, I do not know why the American Indians do not celebrate the 4th of July....)

Actualy if you want to get technical God did give us freedom. On the other hand he placed men on this earth, that died for it. Also God allows things to be taken away from us. WWII was for our freedom. If we would have sat back, in the end it would have cought up to us anyways.

next time i do a funeral detail ill fold the flag inside out and hand it to the mother/widow backwards to show them im angry at the government. if i went to your house and your flag was upside down, and there werent indians, or viet cong, or insurgents coming in through the windows of your home i would take your flag. you dont deserve one.

You could try.

But if the will of the people is being disregarded, and our people oppressed with unconsitutional statutes and rules, Yeah, she, and I, are underattack. And I do have insurgents coming to my house, it's the IRS coming to check if I have the proper amount of insurance, coming with a bill just in case I have too much insurance.
And on another note, how dare you threaten me with anything, or tell me what I do or do not deserve? What makes you better than me?

It is in the manual of command that it is a sign of distress. It is not belittling. Check your regs.

It is your right to fly the flag in that manner as you see fit. especialy in the current events. As long as you properly maintain the Flag and keep her flying high, she means the same to me upside down backwards diagonally, etc, etc. At least your a proud American and fly the AMERICAN flag and not a dirty mexican flag or some other countries flag on American soil. if i had a neighbor who had another countries flag flying on U.S. soil i would rip it down and take a big marathon dump on it.

You have my support as a veteran to fly the flag in distress.

i just saw the comment about folding the flag inside out at a military funeral. sorry but its totaly different and i can say that because i have attended many. That flag is esentialy flown in Honor of our fallen brother, so it is not in distress and never could be. if you did that at a military funeral, then you would be the dousch bag, and if i was there i would kick the crap out of anyone who did it!
just like i may or may not have done to a protester at a military funeral. SCUM BAGS!
