Someone should make a red hat that says, "Making Tolerance Great Again."

    Co-opt the message.

Tolerance....I used to know what that word meant. No so sure anymore. It used to mean- "put up with" or "live and let live" or some such. I think it has a different meaning now.

.... The story has been shown to be a hoax, let's move on. Spending way too much time and effort on this.

Nah. Not really outraged at the activities of chief crying wolf or the interaction with the grinning kid.
The media pushed the RED HAT RACIST narrative, we know what their angle was here. It was pushed to the forefront of national news to hammer Trump.

They media needs to be shown for what they are which is instigators and leftists, the country needs to be reminded of their bias daily.

The TDS crowd needs to understand that there will be pushback, otherwise the despicable behavior will continue and thrive.

I didn't say there was no difference. Sure there's a difference, but this whole "he's not the victim, these kids are the victims." Why wallow in victimhood? The story has been shown to be a hoax, let's move on. Spending way too much time and effort on this.

The left doesn't have a corner on this:

I believe the narrative is that the MAGA hats are so offensive that they incited the non-students to scream racial insults and invade their personal space. Those who attack non-progressives are never thought to be at fault.

I think the intent is to position MAGA hats as the new/next Battle Flag of The Army of Northern Virginia

I mean, they're not losing that battle.

Just like any SJW shame campaign, the MAGA hat has been turned into an icon with strongly negative stigma behind it. They're great at doing things like this. Counter-culture can only combat it so far... the hat gives you the impression that the person wearing it is looking for confrontation, doing it to provoke because of how its viewed.

Similar to the stigma some people see with open carry, or saying certain words. There's nothing wrong with it... but you feel awkward doing/saying them because of the meaning they've injected into it.

Probably the same feeling some smokers have. Or people that used to let their kids walk around stores while they got groceries. Or play in the neighborhood without being supervised. Yeah, you can do it... but they want it to feel "socially unacceptable"

The TDS crowd WANTS the MAGA hat to be turned into something negative.

They are by no means successful, as much as some of their mouthpieces would like us to believe.

Well, Trump started the process of it being something negative.

Now, the left just wants to turn it into a different negative.

"Make America Great Again" = something negative...

No, the left made it negative from the VERY START. "America was never great" You remember that don't you?

Someone just talked about this recently, how "conservatives" feel like they have to quietly support their candidates/Presidents. Obviously, not everyone practices that... but you see in a lot of places how it's more "socially acceptable" to be liberal than it is to be conservative.

Those that want to be vocal about it find their groups and use those as a shield for criticism. Strength in numbers and all.

Wearing the hat isn't really "quiet", it's taking a stand. It's a political bumper sticker. It's making sure people around you know what you're about. It also makes you a target for those that really dislike the values they have ascribed to the hat.

Dunno. Some like going with the flow. Some like standing out. Some like confrontation.

It's just a hat. But you can't deny there's more behind it now, because of what the media/hard-left puts on it. The words mean nothing anymore.

I remember Trump dickishly making a mockery of many things that America was already "great" at as part of his self-proclaimed MAGA campaign.

Sure, we all want America to be great. Just not everyone buys into Trump's distorted view of greatness. Keep in mind, he thinks himself to be "great." No way I want to be "great" like him.

I had a negative view of MAGA hats (including those worn by family and friends) before this dustup.

The left wants to contort that negativity into something COMPLETELY different, along racial lines. I'll defend against the efforts to do that, but I don't think it objectively reasonable to say that MAGA hats were universally positive even before this.
