I honestly don't think he is that stupid

    That's a joke, right?

Brizzi re-hired Gillian DePrez after her sweetheart deal*, which, by the way, we still cannot get for our guys. No "DePrez Special" for us.

It is beyond obvious that Mr. Brizzi treats some drunk drivers differently than others. Why would he not treat a police officer in the special category?

*Yes, I know that it was a special prosecutor, but Brizzi re-hired her.

He did apparently give the one guy a "good deal" when the family made a campaign donation...... though he said that it was not like that...

You can't be .19 BAC and hide it.

Hard core long term alcoholics can. It's called "tolerance." It's part of the physiology of addiction.

One last thing-everyone is saying the officer was drunk. Recall there is ZERO proof that he was. People need to stop saying he was drunk.

Well, there was apparently a blood test that showed a BAC 0.19
The fact that the test turns out to be inadmissible doesn't change the reality of the result.

    Innocent until proven guilty.

Be honest now; is this the attitude you always have when suspected criminals avoid prosecution due to procedural errors and inadmissible evidence?

i have always hated seeing the escorts to the track. its actualy enfuriating. speedway cops even come all the way down here and escort. they need to knock off this crap. but once again, money talks and the law walks. im sure they are making lots of extra money to drive like maniacs! and they DO drive like maniacs while doing them escorts.

The escorts are actually a necessary evil. At first I thought they were all elite folks who were getting special treatment. That really isn't 100% true. They are paying extra, and it really isn't that cheap. It helps keep standing traffic to a minimum.

I keep hearing that, but I've come in contact with LOTS of drunks, many of whom are raging alcoholics and/or drug addicts and you can ALWAYS smell it on them. True, some of them walk and talk just fine while being .20+ but you can always smell it and usually see it in their eyes. To say that someone was acting just fine is one thing, but I don't see how you can get near someone with a BrAC that high and not smell it on them.

I am tired to getting mean mugged by every biker I come across...I haven't done anything wrong! It is time to become invisible I am afraid. I walk into a restaurant in uniform and I get the stare of death from everyone...somehow I still love my job. Being an LEO must be be a gene cause that is the only thing I can think of that allows me to put this uniform on everyday in the face of open hostility.

This is not fair of course, and I'm sorry you're on the receiving end of hostility that you did not provoke.

However, it is often said here and elsewhere that non-LEO don't understand what it's like being an LEO. That goes both ways; sometimes LEO don't seem to get what it's like not being one of you.

What you have to understand is the power dynamic between LEO and non-. You guys have the power to detain us, take away our stuff, and use the threat of force against us - and use actual force if we don't cooperate.

The essential thing to realize here is that the only thing that separates you from criminals is our belief that you (collectively) are honest, honorable, lawful, and competent. Because if you're not - if you're dishonest, dishonorable, unlawful, or incompetent, then the way we experience you is exactly the same way we experience a criminal: here is someone who can ruin my day. In fact, take away the honesty, lawfulness, and competence, and you guys are actually worse than criminals... how so? Because with regular criminals I can use force to defend myself. If I run into a criminal LEO, I don't really have that option.

This just highlights the critical importance that you in the LEO world have to scrupulously maintain not just integrity, but also the appearance of absolute integrity. Because without that, you're basically just another criminal gang with extra powers that typical criminals don't have.

Now, I generally do believe that the vast majority of LEO are honorable and lawful and competent. But when these kind of incidents happen - high profile events where there is, at minimum, the appearance of a bad cop, plus the appearance that his department is covering up for him - that is going to do serious damage to the public perception of a lawful, honorable, competent police department.

This is a classic case of Bias of Ascertainment.

Yes, the really obvious drunks are really obvious. But not all drunks are really obvious. You're not aware of the ones who aren't obvious, because they aren't obviously drunks and you never know.

I work in the medical field and I have been surprised by people's drug and alcohol results before. Not often, but it happens.

I think it's important to remember that as a police officer (or in the medical field) we are usually not coming into contact with high-functioning alcoholics. The folks who wind up in an ER or a squad car are usually the ones whose lives are falling apart badly. But for every drunk or addict out there who is completely falling apart, there are lots more who cover up, function well most of the time, and do a good job of hiding their problem.

Yes, the chronic homeless drunk who shows up in my ER with liver failure is going to smell like a brewery. Not just because of his BAC, but also because of his completely deteriorated lifestyle. You're not just smelling what he drank today, you're smelling what he spilled on himself last week and hasn't taken a shower or washed his clothes since then.

A high functioning drunk with a high BAC who just took a shower and changed his clothes and brushed his teeth can be a different story.

The nerve of the McDonalds people, making you wait.

Another sarcasim remark from you. Focus on the issue and it was about another LEO misusing his power. You only see one side to anything about a police officer being in the wrong. News flash for ya not all police officers are always in the right.

If I am taking this the wrong way then please accept my apology.
