So, who made the Trump Jesus picture? That's what we're discussing?

I personally think that puts this in the who-gives-a-flying-**** category. Of course it may be of value to discuss why this image found its way in a thread on a forum which most certainly has many conservative Christians. So what was the point of that?

I used it to illustrate the absurdity of the rhetoric surrounding Trump, in this case the religious-like devotion on display by some of his followers. I don't care who created the image, or for what reason. I used it because it was exactly the imagery I wanted to make my point.

As I've written in two posts prior to this one: do a google image search for "Trump Jesus"...this image is just one of hundreds returned from a simple search.

Along the same lines search for "Trump Messiah". Thousands of results. Unsurprisingly many are critical articals from secular sources, but there are far too many "Christian" results to ignore.

It's not like some of his supporters aren't a bit looney anyway. The man that has a life size cardboard cutout of Trump who says he salutes it each and every morning comes to mind.

That IS your opinion, Paul. You are welcome to express it.

Something that I have been mulling over is the term someone used to describe their feelings, offended. If you look at the listed synomyms for offended I am sure you can pick out one or two that describe you at some time or another.

I have seen a certain Member who is an officer who has stated that said he has never been offended, who as I recall takes great umbrage when he perceives one to be cop bashing. He quoted someone's sig line Offense is never given but taken, or something like that. That is also someone's opinion.

I would like to state that I find the title objectionable. You as a self proclaimed athiest feel it is OK and as long as the mods do not infract you you can do it. The term Messiah is specific to 1 person whom you do noe accept so it is your supposed right to disparage Him by using it to describe a mere man.

If someone had titled a thread "Barack Obama, Great Man? N*****? Discuss..." They woyld have been infracted and possibly perma banned, because the word N***** is OFFENSIVE.

I feel the possibility of an infraction here, but I am not smart enough to explain it in a more kind and gentle way.

"Messiah" is not specific to Christianity, though it certainly is a messianic religion. Jesus is a messiah in the broader academic sense to everyone, but he is only The Messiah to Christians. My title would only be offensive if the reader confusss the two.

If if you are looking to be offended, go ahead. That's on you. I am simply calling attenten to things others are saying that I find absurd...and for the record, this wasn't intended to be a one-sided thread. There is plenty of absurdity being paraded out from all over the political spectrum.

This thread was intended to lampoon that, and give a place for the hyperbolic users to vent.

OK. Trump is a :poop: head

I think that actually minimizes the situation. He's much worse than that. After all he's the idiot engaged in a game of chicken with the North Koreans. Might not be so bad if it didn't involve nukes and enough artillery to wipe out Seoul.

I personally, would like my president:
    -To not boast about himself
-To tell the truth more often than he tells lies
-To observe the opinions of all Americans
-To actively work to have his legislation passed
    -To observe common decency
    -To avoid threatening people
    -To avoid hyperbole
-To hear him speak more about the nation than television personalities
    -Keep his promises
    -Admit his mistakes

Many presidents have been guilty of not doing the above; some more than others. I don't know what you call a president who doesn't abide by such, but it certainly isn't something positive.

I'm sure I could come up with a few more, but thank you.

All of those criteria and nothing about upholding the Constitution. Speaks volumes.

Personally, I'd rather have a jerkwad that followed the founding document of this Republic than a nice fella/lady that is bent towards socialism. IMHO of course. I'm not saying Trump is that guy, but I am saying he's more that guy than Mrs. Clinton is, which is clearly why he was elected.

I do agree that a significant portion of Trump supporters have what appears to be a cult-like following. I posted about that all through the primaries. I don't really think "Trump Jesus" represents how they view Trump at all. It's really nothing like a religious belief. It's more like they believe they finally have someone in the White House who gets it and knows how to get what they want done. Someone who will run the country like they think it should be run. They're not going to give up on that belief easily. In other words they don't view Trump as a Messiah as much as they view him as one of them. And probably the only way they'll give up on that belief other than prying it from their cold, dead hands, is if Trump betrays them in a fundamental way. Like if he fellates Mexicans at the boarder as they swarm in after he tears down what walls exist, that'd probably lose a good number of devotees.

You could say the same of any fanboi of any cause. There's nothing unique about the Trump ones.

That's a joke right? Lol, ok I have one too. Fear of brown people and Muslims... clearly that's why he was elected. Both are just as valid.

Is it too much to ask for someone who could act like, I don't know a reasonable adult instead of a juvenile little brat?

The country is better off because he got elected rather than Clinton. Was he my primary pick? Absolutely not. Not even close, but I'll take him and all the SCJ's he can get in there.
